there is nothing at the moment in the way of holes coming from the boot into the car as my 6x9s are mounted in the back shelf. shouls i cut some more holes or should i cut some holes behind the seats as noone ever sits in the back and as for sound proofing my car is well sound deadened with dinamat and the foam and then thick foam backed carpet. everywhere that can be deadened is and i am just waitin on my new dash to add more deadening behind that thanks for all the replies.
the reason i bought that sub was because it was very very cheap and i was not really that bothered but now i just want more(always the case i find) but as i have no more money to spend that is hat i will live with cheers again neil

if there's no way for the sound to get into the cabin then it's never going to be very loud

also are the back of the 6x9's open to the force of the sub ? because it's not going to do them much good

It shouldn't be too bad even if the parcel shelf doesn't have a ports. The minis boot area is sealed off completely anyway - Look down the sides of the rear seat panel - Theres a pretty big gap either side.

Really though - If it sounds good from the inside, what else do you want, thats the whole aim of having a sub - To get good bass without destroying the mid and treble sounds by maxing out your speakers and HU settings.

i would remove the 6x9's from the shelf and just keep the grills to let the sound from the sub out of the boot

I used some plastic port inserts from Maplin on my rear shelf making full use of the 2 50mm? holes in the metal that are already there...

Lets the sound through from the sub quite well but I still need to block off the backs of my speakers before I ruin them.

in my experience with my mini i could never get a massive amount of sound out of anything that went in the boot! i wouldnt go cutting loads of holes either because i think your gonna get left disappointed! at one stage i was running an alpine swx1042d 1000w rms from a alpine pdx1.1000 1000w rms and got nothing but boot rattle!!! it sounded pants! and after spending £850+ i was not a happy bunny! but since moving the sub to where the back seats used to live its a whole different animal! the bass is crazy and a joy to listen to!!!

in my honest opinion, if u want better bass either move the sub to the back seats or just buy better equipment bcause the fli stuff and various other halfords tat (sorry if i offend anyone) is just not up to the job!
haha well thats my rant of the day done!

happy bass hunting!

i used to have this in my boot, 10" pioneer 120rms with bridged amp 150w rms running at 3/4 box took up most the boot and the sound shook the hell out the car :P and i didnt have to put any additional holes in the parcel shelf to get a decent SPL. the box is made so the sub aims straight up.

Yo man i got the same sub as you and after a month of running it in and tuning it does rumble the floor, it even rattles the garage door when the boots closed!

Thats how ive got it, but ive got a clubby so a bit more boot space.

I took my parcel shelf cover out, and the two original holes in the middle (as you can see in M44K's post) act as a port into the car and jesus does it pump!

I cut a large hole between the back seat and the boot, then covered with a high quality mesh and replaced the back seat. Sounds a treat and definitely shakes up the back-seat passengers !

i agree with josh b on this one, anything in the boot sounds gash if you leave it without cutting holes, and as i didnt want to cut holes i moved my jbl 12" sub and alpine 250w amp to the back seat, and my god, it was awesome, now got another of the same sub and a double box on the rear bench with the same 250w amp, and its like having a massage chair when the volumes up, who said you need a big amp for big power? :P

p.s, if you want to see what im running, look for the thread called piiiiimppppppedddddd on mini chat :)
