Fitted engine back in at last hope to have it running soon .anybody had trouble with fitting engine mountings with captive nuts I ended up removing nuts and fitted original nut and bolts .

There is a lot of advice on here telling folks not to use the mounts with the cr**py captive nuts. If you want trapped nuts then buy standard OE mounts and weld a pair of 5/16" UNF nuts on.

The ones with the trapped Riv-Nuts are just junk.

Also I've always been told that you should fit bolts with the nuts on the bottom wherever possible. that way if the nuts loosens and fall off the bolt will stay in place. With is the opposite to how the captive engine mounts fit with the bolts being fitted from below.

Still I've never had a problem getting the original engine mounts to fit, using nothing more than a old flat bladed screwdriver to align the holes. And using some masking tape over the ring end of a spanner (1/2" if using the correct bolts) and the head of the bolt pushed into it to keep it in place and held long enough to get the nuts tightened up from underneath.

Also realised that I had no filler to make the conversion look good, so painted it anyway....

Will be finishing the conversion properly, next weekend.... weather permitting LOL

Wanted to remove the water pump as the engine in the cooper i'm doing up has been stood about 10years, the coolant has turned to what i can only describe as 'puke'.
No problem i thought, remove radiator and unbolt.....radiator mount bolt is a bit of rust.

3 hrs later and lot of broken dremel sized discs i managed to cut the bolt off (the front panel is off and i still struggled, dunno how you remove the radiator if the bolt has seized any other way without dropping the engine!!).

Small victory, 1 hell of a long way to go.

Tried and failed miserably to remove the rod change roll pin in order to replace the gaitor that covers the gear change seal.
