I think it's lemon.
Built in 75 but first registered in 76. It was imported(exported) from Spain to Switzerland new for the dealer and baught by an employee of the British embassy apparently.
It was then willed to the guy I got it from when she died many years ago.
I'm currently looking for some space to put my minis away so I can have a good look at it, but it's sipprisingly good for its age and has never been resprayed, so no surprises there. 👍

Been replacing front a rear suspension components. Lots of fun along the way, cones fused to struts=angle grinder. Sheered bolts, stripped bolts, lower arm pins seized...that was not fun. Fitted new lower arms to the wrong side before we realised. Couple days work but got there eventually.

I was wondering why my 998 was running like poo after its mot so i took a look at the carb. The parts that have been on there for near enough a decade had suddenly up and left and were replaced by other parts. So a new needle, spring and filter were ordered. Hopefully i dont need to mess around with the mixture much as rolling roads are a near impossibility to book these days.

Swapped out a 5 point harness for a new 4point with seatbelt type clip in middle for easier use,
And wrapped around cage at top instead of down to floor in eye bolts :-)

Performed my first oil change on the mini since acquiring in July. Went with Castrol 20W50 (got it on special for $13/5 liters...bought two) and added a ZDDP additive. Fresh oil filter. Also did the valve clearances, replacing the rocker cover gasket with a freesh cork one, smeared with Hylomar Blue. The sump drain bolt was seeping, discovered it had a "dowty" rubberized washer which may have been reused too many times. Fittied new copper crush washer, smeared with PTFE thread sealant liquid. After a good long test drive today, no signs of any oil seeps at sump bolt or rockers.

I will say filling back fresh oil was quite a drawn out process. Had heard to be cautious not to pour in faster than it could drain down to sump, but didn't expect a 5 min wait for every 500 ml pour in! Must have a very small drain port!

Finished painting my engine block and put it back together - pretty much the last bit of engine bay tarting up I've been planning on doing since I got it in the summer, taking it out for a run tomorrow :D

Did you strip the engine bay, clean everything and put back together or clean it in situ? If in situ I'd like to know your method, cleaning tools/agents etc.

I did it mainly in situ - disconnected the battery then took off the HT leads, alternator, sump guard, air box and ignition coil.

Then lots of autoglym engine cleaner on the block, scrubbed with wire brush, cleaned off with a spray bottle of plain water and a rag, repeat until clean. Then took the spark plugs out to paint it, few coats of Halfords vht matte black with a normal paintbrush and a small art one to get all the gaps. Also painted the radiator housing and cap at the same time.

Cleaned off the plastic components with autoglym vinyl and rubber cleaner, including the fan while the alternator was off.

The alternator itself came up quite nice with just a dry wire brushing.

Rocker cover was cleaned with the same degreaser then normal primer and spray paint.

Obviously there's a couple of new parts between the photos as well - new radiator and hoses, silicone vacuum hoses and ignition coil (resistance was too low on the old one)
