i thought halogens were the same wattage as there is a max for road use :erm:

Well whatever it is my switch melted about 2 weeks after putting in the halogens (after 13 years of functioning perfectly). Coincidence...? :erm:

While fiddling with my lights (after the dashboard went dark & the tail lights went out - at night, naturally) to try and work out why I was repeatedly blowing a fuse, I pulled the contacts off the permanent supply (fuse 2) at the fuse box to clean everything, and pulled the slide-on connector clean out the back of the fuse box. Oh, what fun...

So, its a new fuse box (13 bloody quid! It's outrageous!) and a blummen good clean around the contacts for the side lights and tail lights. Seems to have improved matters, but not to the stage where it's all working smoothly.

Someone fitted angel-eyes to the car before I got it. Very pretty lights, but now we have two bulbs per side for the front side lights. They took the smart option and re-wired the lights with heavier guage wire (and done a reasonable job) but it doesn't stop the earth connectors getting all cakked up behind the grille, and it seems happier with a 25amp fuse rather than the standard 15amp one in the bottom hole of the fuse box too. And my problem hasn't gone away - just slowed down (not burning a fuse an hour any more). But reading this thread has at least given me some more places to check for dirty contacts, thanks.

Cool. I ordered a new lights switch when I ordered a new fuse box. The post office tried to deliver it today... I'll be picking that up on the way to work in the morning. I really really hope it cures all my mini's ills.
