Hi,

Im currently useing EBC green stuff pads, with cooper S 7.5 callipers / disks, and i really dont have any confidence in them to stop me.
Ive had them on the car for just about 700 miles now, and they dont feel like they are getting any better now.

Ive been looking at replacements and come up with 2.

Mintex 1144's
http://www.minispare...ty=pb&pid=32847

And Carbon metalics
http://www.minispare...ty=pb&pid=32846

Ive been told both work well, but am not quite sure which suits me best.
So who has used either, and how have you got on with them?
Anyone tried both?

Thanks

Chris

ive just recently bought a new set of discs, and blackstuff pads from minispares, and right from thier very first use, its like hitting a brick wall when you slam on the anchors (Y)

very much reccomend you get new discs if youre having problems with better pads than mine mate

I have alwasy gone for quality discs and ferodo pads for road use - stop my mini, 206 GTI and 306 HDi estate perfectly well!

Not ever been one for flashy more expensive pads >_<

Greenstuff pads are not too far off a racing spec and need to warm up - theres not really much point on a road going mini - I use partco / unipart own and (on S discs too) they're much better - and much much cheaper too

I've got the green stuff on my 1275 and they stop really well once warm.
Not sure what happens when they cool down and I need to stop in a hurry on the motorway. Ho hum.
They were bang on from the word go Chris... Sounds like there is something going wrong there.
But then, I have 8.4's... AND brand 'new' calipers.

I use the 1144's on mine and have never had any problems. Good for fast road spec. Been going down the lanes with a mate who had greenstuff pads and by the end his were smelling badly and he was complaining of brake fade. mine were still fine, wouldn't use anything else.

Dave.

How have you been running them in?

I drive for a few miles with the brakes lightly applied to warm them up, then several hard stops from 70-20. Then leave for a cooling off period. Once I've done this twice its pretty much ready to go.

Ive tried all that, they are ok, when really hot, but anything less and it feels like there is nothing there.

The disks look fine, so i havent replaced them yet, they dont look like they need it.
Im 90% sure its the pads, and its less work to replace them first.

What i need is a pad that works well from cold, but doesnt fade when pushed hard.

;) I guess so. but you know what i mean, i do country road and motorway/A road driving, so i need something that can cope well with both, the car only really does 80, and its a 998, so it doesnt need as much braking power at a 1380 etc.

I would recommend Ferodo pads, have used Mintex on our 306 in the past and definately won't be using them again for the couple of quid I saved.

Mintex £12

Xpart (std) £22.51

greenstuff's are pants.

I belive the problem is they don't like getting too hot, on the 7.5" setup there is not a great deal of surface area, and you can cook them and they never work the same again,

the 1144's will be much better, but its even possible to fade these

carbon metalics are supposed to be the nuts, but i'm yet to try them.
