Thanks for the tips guys, glad rex is ok :D

I see your point about buying young so that they dont have any nasty habbits etc. But if you get a young'un, are they too small to let out? Obviosly they have to get used to you first to build up a trust but if they are quite active is it hard to stop them disapearing?

Thanks ;)

while he's small he will need a close eye kept on him. I will mostly be holding him, feeding him by hand etc. When he's big enough so he can't fit under my chest of draws then he will be let out to roam

probably in about 4 months with the rate these grow

Yes plenty of handle while young so it knows you and who feeds it.I think you will have to get a bigger tank before long. They get big.You will soon need a leather jacket and gloves.

Oh yeah forgot to ask, are they ok on their own during the day (Work Hours) and odd evenings. Obviously if i was planning on leaving it alone in the evening too i'd make sure to let it out/make a fuss before going.

Can their claws not be trimmed then?

We've got 6 parrots atm so im pretty sure the skin on my sholders and arms is extra thick now ;)

Claw trimming.I have no idea i would check at a good vets.I always do with my Dobby she has Cat Claws black and have to stay long because of the vein size. The cost is very good on nail jobs. Will it not wear them down on a Log or a rock.Do you use a bulb or a Hot floor pad and a top quality Themo. Timmer.Spotted you have put a hide in.I would use a floor heater and a small light so it can tell the time.

ive got a bearded dragon, hes called philip. hes a pretty docile creature, i can have him out and he will mostly just go for the highest spot he can, like the top of the sofa or a pile of clothes etc and just stay there. hes about 3 years old now and about a foot long

Of course there fine on there own, they be fine for weeks if you left them to it, there reptiles, - (although don't though, thats nasty!)

As far as im aware there nails shouldn't get long enough to trim, im not 100% but i know we've never needed to trim bobs, and our turtles claws can't be trimed as theres some form of nerve in there i think.

I have never had anything really big.The Adder came with handle it everyday so i did.Soon worked out what it was like at night.Payed £130 for it joke on me kept it a while travelled miles to pet shops to give it away NO way.Found a Guy i did not like and gave it him.I had a good Plate Glass tank 3ft long and it coiled double 6ft ish.It could even break out of a vented large safe box sealed with brown factory tape and open the zip of a pet friendly hold all from the inside with its nose. When out it would search for anything alive in a locked room fully lighted.Coil around my ankle streatch out and in in so fast For the spit and then bite in my face. You can not grab them in a standard neck lock they slip out fast and get you.Had to keep the cat away.It would not take its food if you watch and had to be fresh and running rats.It had a neat way of stretching dinner spin it to head first and swallow.
Thought i tell you all about that error.
Hope your new pet is doing well.

Thats a good price for a setup above.Things have gone up so much in the last few years laws have changed so they go to good homes.I did have a Mex. Red T. spider in a 3ft tank in the past.Someone picked it up with no idea when told not to.It damaged there bones in there hand on one full bite.
Best to read a few books first.
Good luck all with this Pet Thread its a good one. :turtle:

Just been doing a bit of searching and cant find the one i was looking at the other day. A bit more money but less than the pet shop price: Clicky

£155 with postage and then another £25 for a local baby :)

Just had a good look at your clicky. When i had 3 Geckos the viv. was wood with sliding front glass doors to get in.The pets like that more than in the top of a tank. You could make one and get plate glass on runners to save lots of cash or buy a cheaper box and convert it.With my large snake i used a plate glass locked tank but it only opened at the top he did not like it.They can live for years better than a hamster.
Pet Pictures would be great here. :turtle:
