Fisrtly clutch plates aren't colour coded, only the diaphragm springs are so you can't get either an orange or grey plate.
Yes it matters, verto and pre verto are very different. You can exchange the whole system, but not parts between the two.
The simplest way to tell if your clutch is verto or pre verto is that the verto cylinder is mounted on a bracket, not directly onto the drop housing. The pre-verto cylinder isn't on top of the engine, it's directly on the back of the drop housing. You probably do have a verto as you have a Metro engine, but it could have been swapped out.
There is no such thing as an orange spring for a verto clutch. There are only a couple of tuning options for a verto. More options than most people think but not as many as for the pre verto.
Mega Mini (who became Mega Parts For Mini's) have gone bankrupt and closed down I believe.
Firstly you can change from the 180mm clutch plate to the later 190 mm plate, this gives you a big increase in the friction surface (if you do this you should get the flywheel outer re-faced or it'll wear unevenly on the new plate). Also there's a four finger sintered plate you can use for the verto, but that'll be really savage. There's a few springs out there for Vertos, two standard ones (late and early, you probably can't get the early one anymore), the turbo spring and a thing called a competition spring. The exact difference between these springs I don't know but the Turbo one is the proven tuning part here. I think the competition spring is relatively new. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether the turbo pressure plate is compatible with a 190mm clutch plate. The 190mm was only introduced in 1990 and the turbo was extinct by then so it may not be.

Personally if your running a verto clutch I'd just use a standard plate, which is what the MG Metro had..
And as for were to get one... Got to Min-Its or Minispares both of which are local to you

meant solid clutch plate(TURBO) or paddle (race )i call this grey as its the only time i use a grey diaphram. just to clear my mistake up.
