 Changed oil yesterday and engine looks like its a gonner...

Why, what did you find?

 

gold ...welll brass...

 

I can't think of any obvious brass/bronze bits in the engine itself, other than the primary gear thrust washer.  The gearbox, though is an entirely different thing.  It certainly isn't anything to do with the pressure relief valve since that is steel.

The relief valve plunger doesn't always pop out .. may need to be pulled out its seat.

I'm not so sure to be honest. Doesnt look right shape etc for that to me. Does the car run? has it got one hell of a rod knock? If thats from the mains you certainly would be hearing that big end clanking about, if not, its something else

I get a knock starting when cold ,and the oil pressure drops when warm.
