by the way i think the police need the high end cars for reliability, comphort and speed. all these are needed in a police car i say and if anyone deserves cars like these it should be the officers keeping us safe. :ermm:

I agree, so why the hell are they useing BMW's and Bini's?

Volvo's, vauxhalls, the mercs i get, but every BMW ive been in doesnt compare considering the price

Good to see they are spending tax payers money. They should buy cheap cars in my eyes......

Thats why the country is in a mess

yeah, i dont see why they need expensive BMW estates and Volvo estates as well as all of the other stupidly expensive cars they have!

they should use all the cars they confiscate, they get some corkers when they make big arrests.

+1 Police flying about in a nicked clapped out metro or micra, that would be quality :)

What the hell are you people ON? The police need good quality, fast reliable cars so they can get to scene's of crime quickly, and safely. Say your girlfriend, or mum etc gets stabbed or raped, and the police break down in their hugely amusing micra whilst trying to catch the perpetrator, you wouldn't be laughing much would you. Think before you type :ermm:

I am guessing the BINI convertable is a just promotional car for the police, I don't see them using it every day as a patrol car.

I don't know what makes you say that, BMW's are very good cars, can't believe you're trying to say Vauxhalls might be better :ermm:

yeah but can you imagine the determination they would have to catch criminals with nice cars? "your nicked, and im havin that!" to use as the high speed patrol cars, as a sort of 'trophy' to display and use. criminals would have to sit in prison while the police get to thrash their pride and joy. :ermm:

C'mon, how on earth would that work. They would have to customise the electronics on each model of car to fit radio's, lights, cameras and whatever else specific types of police cars have, as well as uprate the suspension etc as they do for the high speed pursuit vehicles. And then you have reliability issues, most idiots driving about in skylines or what have you probably don't maintain them properly so they would be unreliable and need alot of work before they could be used. It would end up costing the tax payer more than the discounted rate at which they buy brand new cars from the factory!

maybe the criminals should have to pay for the conversion..... as well as their punishment fine/prison time etc. either by paying upfront or by having their stuff taken. have you ever seen those 'cops with cameras' programes, the police have to pin these drunken idiots down and are being yelled at and abused by them untill they get them back to the station, then at the end you see that they've been given a £20 fine or been let off! the least they could all do is make a compulsury dontation to the police's equipment funds.

Duh, it's obviously a convertible for their helmets :ermm:.

I think they might already use confiscated cars for surveillance. Good ol' elf 'n safety must be a major factor with the rest. You'd want summet that tops the ncap tables if you're gonna be boxing in road rage nutters.

Last time I spoke to the Divisional Finance Manager the BMW Mini wasn't a home office approved vehicle. So I doubt that the police have bought it. Good chance that MINI have borrowed it to the police on trial, publicity etc

I think most Police forces trial different cars on loan with the cooperation of car manufacturers hoping to secure a big order if it is successful. The Police have often received criticism recently for being remote from the public and hiding inside police cars so I guess the idea behind a convertible Mini with a friendly face is to increase visibility of the local officiers to members of the public when out on local beat type patrols, rather than chasing speeding motorists and escaping criminals down the motorways.

Thats gotta be a stunt. Their are a few pretty cool police cars. I'v seen an evo 10 police car around Basingstoke before and I saw this at the MPH show a few years ago.
