I passed my driving test today first time with three minors :D

Now im really happy about passing and can't wait to get driving about but I feel like I need to treat my car to something..

I have a fairly standard 1996 Mini Cooper, the only things changed are the back speakers, new head-unit and clear indicator lights.

I do not want to get bigger wheels or tires so I was thinking of getting some new arches, maybe even the same ones I have now but just body coloured. Also I was thinking of getting a new exhaust - I was thinking of something simular to the one I have at the moment just a bit bigger and ofc have a sporty sound. The biggest thing is I want to keep a feel of originality to the car and not butcher her with loads of new era modifications.

My question for TMF is which do you think would be the next thing I should get for her? Considering im 17 and price does play a bit of a factor.

  • New Exhaust
  • Centre Console
  • Arches ( If so which ones )
  • Other , please comment.

Thanks in advance Rob,

 Alright mate! Think the last time I spoke to you was at nursery school :D Wow, time flies! Congrats on passing your test today, I passed last week. Forever seeing Jack in his driving round Nailsea, and Luke's on his drive looking sorry for itself :D

You all coming to our club meet 1st Tuesday of August? I'll PM you and tell y'all about it :P

Anyways, back on topic...

I'd get some new wheels, maybe 12x5 or 12x5.5's, then you can keep your arches but the wheels will be flush to them. Then maybe a set of hi-los to lower it slightly, will look even smarter then. Or just get some hi-los so it isn't sitting quite as high, and a half decent exhaust system. I don't mind giving you a hand fitting some of the bits if you need a hand.

What engine is it?

Nice car by the way!

Dan :)

Dan Wright yeah ? I don't know why your picture didn't click with me being on your FB and all :)

Thank you and congratulations to you for passing! Did you do it in Bristol or WSM?

Hahaa yeah - Luke's is being worked on at the moment around Jacks , not sure what on though. What/which club meet is this?

Well the problem with lowering it is that my exhuast scrapes on the speed bumps :D . I fitted the front with ( I think ) Hi-Lows but it didn't do it any help, originally I thought it was the suspension. So that pushes me towards get a new exhaust system. If I do get that and you could that would be great thanks :D - I have a very limited knowledge with mechanics =[ .

The engine is a standard 1275 :P.

Yh, that's me! :D

Not sure why you're exhaust is scraping, mine's lowered and it's never touched...

What you up to tonight? If you're about I'll pop round and have a look why it's scraping the floor :D And I'll let you know about our club :P

PM me

Dan :)

I would add a set of group 2 arches the same colour as the body and maybe an RC40. Those wont cost that much altogether.

if you want a loud exhaust which will turn heads then sportex is perfect!
they are well manufactured and fit well to mini's.
I changed mine the other day to a slightly quieter one  big improvement!
nice mini good luck

Thanks Aaron,, I will post pics up when one is fitted

For those of you who have mentioned group 2 arches, which ones do you mean - the rally 1.75" or the race 3.5" ones?

Im with Adrian Flux, they gave me a fair quote compared to everyone else ( Still expensive! ). Other companies where quoting £3000+ for a year but Adrian Flux quoted me at £2400 for a year which allowed me to drive before I passed and after I passed without paying extra.
