Well, I have been slacking on updating, I figured some would be unhappy on what I was going to do to the sill, well I uploaded a bunch of photos of the work at http://s1202.photobu...m1977/60 shell/

here are a few of them.

I cut some thicker sheet to double up the end of the sill so I could attach a lid and be able to maintain the seat crossmember over time.

Posted Image

And cut a section of the cooper floor scrap I had to fill in the the floor on that side, the tunnel is being left for later.

Posted Image

Following that I repaired the front edge of the rh floor and toeboard.

My work plans on this shell may be going to be rethought as this morning the person I was repairing it for decided he wanted to just sell the wagon outright to me instead of trading for the shells.

Whith this I am seriously thinking I am going to have m-machine make me up a set of full length floor/sill repairs and jacking points and make the removeable section in the middle at the tunnel instead.. It's different modifying from original for someone as opposed to trying to sell it.

We will see.

I drug the 1961 woody home today, I thought you would enjoy photos from its good side.

Posted Image

I started stripping the interior when I got it to my friend's shop, It will sit outside so I need to remove any thing that water might damage.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The under side seems to be in good shape however.. so we will see. I need to strip it down so it is easier to move first. I do know that I won't be working on it's body untill some other bodies are finished.

I don't know, they just keep turning up. I was going to help the owner of this fix the shell but the hassles he went through with the previous owner put him off a project this big and he wanted to bail so he offered it to me outright for $650 about £425 or $400/£260 without the Cosmics. I don't know how many other people would try to fix this shell with how bad it's sprung, but I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

On the plus side, the 1100 is supposedly a fresh rebuild with "about 100 miles on the clock before it was wrecked". And it comes with a mk1 cooper heater box, mk1 'S' carbs from manifold to airbox, and an S brake master cylinder. All parts I plan to pilfer to put in my pickup :shifty:

Oh yeah, I know "ringers" are a bad word around here, but the wagon is coming with the original vin and a vin for a very early 1960 Austin saloon 12xxx-ish which will be perfect to include with the saloon shell when I sell it as the vin will match the shell almost exactly! It will make it more of a project car then a spare shell.

The wagon itself is 82xxx which puts it somewhere between oct1960 and feb1961 build date.

Hey all, I have spent the past couple of days stripping the wagon to assess it's condition. Prior to collecting it I had made certain plans as I didn't know how the wagon was constructed. I had assumed it was built with external sills like later LWB minis, however it is very much like a LWB version of my 60 saloon shell.

While the wagon was on the trailer I removed the engine interior and exterior bit, but none of the underside bits were removed until It was pulled from the trailer.

Posted Image

Once it was off the trailer I used an engine lift to lift up the front end so I could get the exhaust and the shift lever out. That shift lever is seriously bent, and it's bent above the floor. Either the original builder bent it before building, or the driver had it bent against him in the crash!

Posted Image

Posted Image

The original toeboard is seriously toast and I don't think it is in any way repairable.

Posted Image

Once the exhaust and shifter was removed I decided laying on the ground disconnecting things was not acceptable so I got a hand leaning it over on it's side on a mattress which gave me a good view of the bottom...

Posted Image

...and the top :)

Posted Image

The roof doesn't seem to have any bents ripples. At least something is straight... The ends of the subframe is fairly thrashed, and once I pulled it out it is definitely twisted. I may be able to fix it.

Posted Image

Once I got all of the brake lines hand brake cables and other sundry items removed, I was able to remove the subframes and drop it on the floor so I could start cleaning up the work area.

Posted Image

Before going home for the night I glued and clamped up the broken left hand wood frame so it would have overnight to dry.

Posted Image

And then went home... for the hell of it once I got home I plopped the wood side on the van for the hell of it...

For your Enjoyment,

Posted Image

Now for the controversial bits... I have been trying to get a hold of the front half of a 1960 shell to use as a donor front end on the wagon, but it seems to have fallen through, I may have to sacrifice the 60 shell that no one wanted to buy from me to repair the wagon that I want to restore and keep in the family. I will take the left over scraps of the mk4 shell and the 60 shell and build up a somewhat custom mini out of it for a friend of mine. Roll up windows Smooth window frames etc etc.

Nothing happening lately other than dismantling front subframes. I have ordered a small batch of parts from m-machine and likely will be cleaning off and maybe having my original front subframe blasted so I can repair and paint it prior to building it up.

Chris

P.S. I am seeking out a left hand door frame to use on the internal tank traveller, or just a B-Pillar, it would be greatly appreciated if you could keep your eyes out for a mk1/2 estate or any van/pup being broken so I could purchase the panels.

Not much progress, I received some panels in the mail, they are pattern ones and will need some modifications, I did finally manage to get the van out of the garage so I can start moving stuff from the storage unit. Oh, with the van outside I took a picture I wanted to see for a while...

How is it compared to the "rusty" one? Is there any metal left? ;)

I stopped updating it on here as there didn't seem to be much interest. I update it on 2 other forums I frequent.
