My Aunt had a V plate Ford KA which needed sills, and apparently rear arches are a popular replacement for Ford Pumas

i have a year 2000 cooper sport and the rust it has on it,is unbelievable, basically the whole front end, bonnet everything has to be replaced....

maybe a few bits at the rear, but only patches here nand there, im not prepared to break or sell it as it cost me 45OO,3 years ago so im gonna

spend whatever it takes to get everything mint and i could sell it once its done for 10k as i think late mpi coopers hold there value if mint...

but im gonna keep it because i love it too much ha ha ha,

just wish i could get on with it.......

Sorry, I'm having a bit of a rant...... I was getting it MOT'd to sell it, now I have to spend yet more ££££ on it first.

You may save yourself some time and effort, and sell it as an MOT failure, MPis still attract a reasonable value, not sure what you're hoping for price wise when complete, but may be worth considering.

a modern car might not rust with in 10 years but they are usually scraped around then due to the cost of parts being more than the value of the car

just think about how little your mini has depreciated in 10 years

i know my 20 year old mini is worth almost as much as i bought it for new

I have an Volvo S40 1.8 sport 122bhp. 51 reg, 133K, Full history, which I put on autotrader for £800 plus the tax.

The gearbox went yesterday. I can get a second hand one for £200, and I'm waiting for a price on fitting - but expecting £4-500 (10 hours+)

I might weigh it in. Not a spot of rust, all 6 airbags are fine, the electrics all work, but it just ain't worth it.

Just to put it into comparison, I've seen a few early Mk5 Golf's, (54 reg etc) with rust bubbles all the way along the bottom of the tailgate, not small patches either, I'm talking a good inch or 2 up the panel. Also, my parents have a mk5 GT TDI on a 55 plate, and the door frame is starting to rust ever so slightly where the top felt weatherseal on the door rubs on the paintwork when the door is closed. VW won't cover it under the 12 year anti corrosion warranty either, the rest of the car is perfect, (mainly because I keep it clean for them :) ) I don't think a 10 year old Mini has done too bad.

my 2000 mpi has the typical rust under the headlamps where it joins the front panel, and a few rust bubbles are appearing on the bottom of the doors, but apart from that its fairly sound. I was able to take a good look at the underside of it whilst it was up on a ramp at my local garage and all seems ok for now....mind you its not my daily driver and doesn't go out in the winter, but it does get driven in the rain, so hopefully it will last a bit longer lol

As for my Nissan Primera which i use everyday that sees all weathers, doesn't ever get garaged (don't have one lol) and its done over 165k with minor rust at the back of sill by the rear wheel arch....been picked up by the MOT man as a concern so no doubt that'll need attention soon lol

Lots of these mpi minis are going rusty, I don't really know why.
Most people I know who own one have had a lot of work doing to them. I have a 1995 Sprite that was run into, Ive found LOTS of rott when I removed the petrol tank :)
Now I own a 96 Sprite, as my run around.. it has its bad points, but its funny how it isn't rotten in the same places as my other one. I.e (rear arch, boot lip). I have been told that all the later Mini's suffer with the rust problem as the panels were kept outside??

I tell you why they rust so bad, because those c0cks at Rover welded up and painted already rusting bodies when they built them. I know this to be true c'os I've heard it from someone who worked there.

Anyway, £250 and all the rust on the underside is properly sorted, at least they are cheap to fix.

Next problem, I can't get it through the MOT on emissions.... I'll put this in another thread.
