Haha, have to agree. If you need cheering up buy a Clio, I changed the brake shoes on the back of one once, was a laugh a minute... and people say the mini is cheaply built...
Three of us (all mini owners past and present) stood and chuckled thinking, "that's so cheap that, can't be safe".
I've worked on a few french cars, the one that springs to mind most is my friends old 106, what a joke!

Now that my Mini's been written off, my mate has been trying to convince me to leave the Mini scene (because, i quote, "they're just s**t) and buy a peugeot 106, 206, or Renault Clio.
I'v heard nothing but bad things about French hatchbacks, and i don't plan on leaving Minis anytime soon.

Apologise to your mini and go give it some love...
I.C.E secton might say, I've got a Kenwood....Chef, food mixer it's awesome, and a Kenwood radio tape deck in the mini, was free, still works fine.
No-one wants to nick it that's another plus factor for me...

But he's right. Minis are crap. Unless they work. Which isn't very often.

And we want pictures of you hugging your Mini! Affection must be seen!Apologise to your mini and go give it some love...
That goes for you as well Juju! You know you love Matilda, you just don't like to admit it in case she finds out.
Is it possible someone has wired the radio in wrong rather than it being the fault of the head unit? But in case you want to upgrade anyway, I don't think you can go far wrong with an Alpine head unit. I used my friends Kenwood for ages in my old Mini, it was great too.
Whatever you do, stay away from Blaupunkt, I had a Blaupunkt MP56, it used to skip tracks on brand new CD's, it was always jumping and you'd turn the ignition to on, the radio would come on and when you started the engine it'd come up saying "CD ERROR" and wouldn't do anything. Eventually, so nice person broke in and nicked it, thank god for that!

PS. change the title of this thread. it should read "Why would I put up with a crap radio for so long without replacing it!"

Minis certainly aren't crap, but they are all getting on a bit now. It's a simple comparison to make:
Mini + maintenance & restoration costs versus bland hatchback & depreciation. I think the Mini wins even without including insurance premiums & the cost of maintaining a full service history to try and reduce the pain when you do realise that tumbling resale value.
Do we even need to mention that that you can get paid interest on your "Mini contingency fund" by your bank: HP on a new car costs you.

She knows.
She doesn't love me anymore.
Coopdog and Juju why don't you just buy a piece of french crap and stop posting utter tosh on this forum, you are both getting me down.
Many apologies. Didn't mean to upset. I am looking for a non-mini (i.e. reliable) replacement, but nothing seems to be quite as much fun. Unless you spend a fortune. Which I don't have.

OoooOOOOooooH, yes they are! (is it panto season yet?)

Keeping pretty much any secondhand car on the road makes much more financial than buying a brand new vehicle, but the newer the secondhand vehicle, the greater the financial sense, I reckon. Minis don't tend to fall into the "newer used car" category anymore.

You're getting INTEREST FROM A BANK at the mo???
