spoke to the guy that builds my engines, basic consensus is if youi have no budget limits and are after every single little 1/4 or a bhp then light rods, billet crank, etc etc is the way to go,

otherwise if you are after a track day toy an actually have a sane head on your shoulders and reasonably sized pockets, a well balanced set of a+ items (crank, rods, etc), reasonable quality balanced pistons, a good quality steel flywheel, arp bolts throughout and a 4 bolt centre main cap is all you need to do for a bullet proof bottom end. and make sure you get it all balanced by a very reputable dealer and that you have a good quality crank vibration damper!

all that stuff he said with what to do with the bottom end, was exactly what my mechanic said. im fortunate enough to have a garage specializing in minis near me. everyone who drives a mini(not that many) in my city would know that mechanic, so he is fairly reputable. he used to race minis and knows local people who could lighten the fly and balance the crank etc.

all you have to bear in mind now is that if you are running more power, over about 80@wheels and you are using it hard on the road and track that the mains and big ends will wear faster, purely because they are under a heavier load more often, depending on mileage, a strip down and new shells at minimum every year will keep it all tip top. by mileage i mean over about 6000 - 8000 miles with 80bhp@wheels (real bhp, not baldwin hp) decreacing that as power gets more. i hear matt woods 200bhp+ mini williams turbo gets striped every few months. harder it works, more often it gets taken apart. add into that gearbox wear too, the synchros can often take a pounding on track days!

id imagin he would have dog engagment gears in his box so at least no syncros to contend with, still check teeth for pitting etc
