Today was cam and timing chain fitting day.

Timing cover is modified ready to be fitted, but I need the cam lock tab.

I'm finding it a little stressful and find I'm missing odd and sods

Water pump fitted, just need the locktab for the cam then I can get the cover on.

Take your time and enjoy it. I built up a lovely 998 for my van, all balanced up like yours, with new pistons, rings, shells etc, and had never done things like cam timing before, so all a good learning exercise.

 

it's a sweet little engine and I'm glad I did it properly.

Timing chain cover on, well, sort of. 

 

I bought the A Series Spares mini in a box kit, and to be honest it's not worth the £250. 

 

It's just a selection of nuts, bolts, screws and washers, although the threads are correct, they're not the right length for the timing chain cover.

 

So I'm going to have to buy some. The kit says it contains 90% of the fasteners needed for a full nut and bolt rebuild, I'd dispute that claim.

Well, the engine is coming together nicely.

 

 

 

Apart from the fact the oil pipe is absolutely nowhere near the filter head, but I can tweak that.

 

Need to sort the transfer case bearings for the drop gears and get the transfer case all cleaned up
