I had one, but smashed it in an accident

I looked into getting some done, but I'd need 10 confirmed customers, and the price would be £110.00 each

understandably it didn't get off the ground >_<

there was an old fellah at Malvern selling them, I had the last one and he wasn't willing to make any more unfortunately

If you guys want to resurrect it I can get them done , if 10 people confirm And forward monies I'll get it under way with the vacuum former in Leicester .
I can make the plug fairly easily, just have to mount a mk1 bonnet onto a carrier and drill a couple of thousand hole in it

Important subnote..... This style of Bonnet really isnt suitable for driving with, it'd be made from 2.5mm polycarb or HIPs
both a bit too flimsy for permanent use, perfec for show use

you could most probably make one, but the one shown in the photo of Al's cooper was an original one made by Rover for the launch of the MPI. They specially made clear perspex bonnets and boots lids so that the press could look....but not touch!!

They were made by the old fellah at Malvern, he made the press day units, and was then asked to make a bunch more for BMH museum, but they renaged on the deal before he finished them all, he was left with a few that owed him a few quid so he rocked up at Malvern to sell them.
He said he'd had them for a long while, and every time he saw them they annoyed him - so he decided to off-load them

and to a degree this is why he wasn't willing to make any more >_<

These bonnets wouldn't be suitable for using on cars that are running, show use only. The heat on the polycarbonate would be too great and either deform or melt it completely.

They do look pretty awesome though! Why is it always the majorly impractical items that look awesome? :(

what if you had the bonnet raised at the back to let excess heat out?? just a thought i dont no if it would work.

over time the constant cycling of the plastic becoming hot and then cold would seriously cause it to degrade. Most probably it would start to change colour and go a horrible yellowish colour. the heat could also cause it to wrap if the bonnet was left closed with the hot engine underneath it.

I suppose there are some way round it, but it certainy wouldn't last very long.....but i agree it does look good :(

take a pic of your engine, then get roofless to knock you up (dont be rude, wait for it) a vinyl stick to go over the bonnet??
