My dad got made redundant about two years ago (worked in the building industry) and now works with the council , through a company called Amey. Could you apply to your council? He found it quite easy to get into , but he used to work on the roads anyway and obviously his building experience , tickets etc. He didnt even take a CV. Could your skill be used in council works?
Good luck mate

Well good luck finding some new work.So many are in the same boat.Just take it steady with the money.when i finished work i would get very down and often waste a lot trying to cheer myself up and find things to do every day. Also drinking to much. The Councils do offer some jobs but even they are not as well payed or safe as they used to be.The Council houses do employ office staff to.

I ended up going on my own with work due to let downs with others even that was not to hard in the 90s.Prince Charles had a fund for younger people having a go,i was to old for that. All i had to do was open a biz account with £1000 and have a fair hope plan.Even bank loans were to easy to get thats why everyone is in trouble these days.A working person was payed weekly to in the old days that helped us all keep away from large money problems. When you have great future plans and work things do not work out its only to easy to fall out with your loved partner to,i did.
Safe work as you asked these days is a very hard question to answer.I have had to make many cut backs since i retired to young and did love an expensive life style in the past and my biz.
With work i have always said its being in the right place at the right time.If you do not pump your own trumpet no one else will. When i clossed my factory it was no fun having to tell them all as a good boss they were very upset, most i found jobs with my connections in the trade.
Try and keep your car you will need it for work.

I don't want to sound smug, but in my humble experience, whilst redundancy, and unemployment is (one of) the most stressfull thing that can happen, most (not all) people find that 12 months on it's the best thing that could have happened.

I was made redundant in June 2001, and I ended up working in firm who paid for training which has opened many doors since. I was also made redundant in June 2009, and this made me start my own business, doing what I've been doing for the last 20 years as a freelancer. I'm having to turn work down, because I can't fit it all in at the moment.

The other people I worked with who were made redundant, have moved on to better things too.
