if you had a lamp wit an approval mark, would you be entitled to use any wattage bulb you want??
No, the approval of the lamp type includes the bulb in it when it is tested.

i had an old lucas spot light on the boot lid of my 1988 wired into original tail light loom and never had any issues with MOTs or the police.
You DON’T need a reversing light or lights for the mot, they just aren’t required/tested regardless of age of vehicle.
iam aware this is the case, iam just saying i never had any problems using a boot mounted reversing light. i removed the light a couple of months ago and now have mk2/3 tail light so no reversing light at all and its just passed its MOT

The MOT does not check that your car is road legal.
yeh i know plus the guy that used to do my MOTs never checked if the reverse light worked anyway
