Rang SBD today, ordered some bits and had a bit of a chat. Apparently if I slim down the master and use a banjo fitting on a braided line it will clear the ITB's and filter. Just what I wanted to hear!!. Just the clutch to fathom out now. If I can get hold of the correct roundnose bearing, I'll see about making a carrier on a lathe. Hopefully it's the way forward. Good news for me as I won't have to start ripping more crap out and spending money on stuff I really didn't want in the first place.

Been like Xmas all over again for me today

Drove over to Kings Lynn to pick up my new gearbox. A Getrag F28 6speed with Quaife ATB diff, along with equal length shafts!. Then when I got back, a box of bits had arrived from SBD - Flywheel to suit 7.25" clutch, ring gear and GM water pump. My crank pulley arrived the other day as well.

Much better than the manky black hammerite it came in!. Compared the weights of the flywheels too. Turns out its 5.7kg lighter than the standard one!!!.

Ahh its all a *******. Trying to sort out a clutch, so I can get the rotating assembly balanced and I can stick it all together. I want to get a clutch capable of handling 550-600lbft, so when I go turbo in a few years I won't have to spent £800+ on another clutch. Tilton do a clutch cover, but as they are competition based, you can't get vauxhall splined shafts. Helix do 100's of plates, but a cerametallic cover is only rated to 460lbft - a bit too marginal for a LET. Helix do sintered plates and a cover rated to a lot more - but it's a daily driver so I need a percentage of slip available on the pedal, not on or off.

Done a bit more digging and Superclutch might do a system rated for 600lbft, specifically for the F28 box - so means plates are available. Don't know if thats sintered/cerametallic/organic though. Unlikely to be the latter. Will ring them tomorrow and see what the score is. I would just rate the clutch to what the gearbox can handle, but the box is massively over-engineered and people have run over 500bhp on them - which is LET power as a rule of thumb is about 500lbft. I'm not aiming quite that high, but I'd like a sensible overkill margin.

Such a PITA. I just want to build it. I've taken this long though and I'm not gonna rush it and not balance the rotating assembly!. It really needs it at 8.5k redline!

*trying to :).

Also makes it more challenging :).

And on the bodywork side I'm just waiting for time/bank holidays now. Got the panels (minus the wings), and got the paint. Got the tools, and I'll invent the method/skill about 10seconds before i do it. Bonnet is ready for paint, but again its not a 5 minute job. Several coats that have to be left 24hrs. Then lacquer.

Wish it was so bad >_<. 6 gears, an LSD, 8.5k redline and ITB's make me horny.

Rang Superclutch. They do EXACTLY what I want. A mid range twin clutch with a peak rating of 600lbft, and with a safety margin he quoted me it will take 450lbft all day long. Makes getting a release bearing a bit of a PITA, but its no biggy. Will ring SBD tomorrow and see if I can get one ordered with my 5% discount ;)

Now I need to order my Rivi ticket!!

Copied from MK3OC

Bloody hell I've not updated this for a while!. Mainly due to being excessively ill and not being able to do much!. Anyways lots has been going on in the last week or so. I've been messing about trying to find a suitable clutch rated for 450lbft+ with plates that are available for the Vauxhall F28 standard spline. Demon tweeks just said the gearbox will blow up in my face, so I rang Superclutch/SBD and managed to get exactly what I needed. So that will be with me by the end of next week hopefully. Superclutch are brilliant by the way, SBD too but that goes without saying!.

Today I managed to pull my finger out and do something about the bonnet. I got all the paint a few weeks back so I decided to crack on with it. After messing about and repairing it, I threw some primer at it:

Got it nice and toasty in there!:

And should I feel the need to get high I'm pretty covered with this box:

Posted Image

Filled a couple of areas where the gelcoat had pitted a bit, then stuck the basecoat on. First time I've ever sprayed basecoat but it came out really nicely.

Gonna look ace with the Aerocatches!

And thats about me up to date. I've changed the rear wiper motor as well. Nothing major but it needed doing. Also the MOT is due at the end of next week. Fingers crossed and all that, as I've not really had time to do any major works. The only things that are concerning me are the sills, and the exhaust backbox has a hole in it. Hopefully nothing else will cause me issues!.

Thats all for now.

Tom.
