I take it you haven't actually seen the form then? The reference number is used to SORN online, if you use the paper form you can fill in a lot more information. Get both forms, fill in everything you can on the SORN application and importantly sign it, then write a covering letter explaining the situation and send it all together with all the dates on the forms the same.

It's what they tell you to do in any unusual situation. That way whoever deals with your paperwork has the information and background story to sort it out. You could phone them, but even if they made a note of the call they would probably loose track of the information. Your letter will stay with the forms until they are dealt with.

Oh and you can download both of the forms, you don't need to go out and get them.

or pop into the DVLA office in Portsmouth

I pop into the nearest one to me (exeter) and sort these problems out, they will process it there and then and you get to speak with a person face to face.

I once bought a vehicle that I wasn't gonna use on the road straight away. So I got both the log book & sorn form filled in & sent them off in the same envelope. The log book came back in my name & then I got a letter saying I couldn't sorn the vehicle as it wasn't in my name! Doh! I had to get another form & send it off again.

cheers for the reply but got the form thing sorted. Just added another question to this thread to save making another ford topic on a mini forum :)

With most high street insurers, any modification is a bad thing. Specialists and classic insurers will treat it more open mindedly. The only people who can answer this question accurately are insurance companies though, everyone's insurance quote is unique to them..

DAN is right.Checking details and insurance has to done right so you get no problems in the future. With the ford and pinto engines they fitted a wide range and car specs for the engine fitted.Straight fours were mainly 1300cc,1600cc,2000cc and i think the larger one was called 23000cc but so long ago not sure.3000cc was choice of two engines from dif. factorys both V6.A rare limited edition was RS 3100cc on capris. Then the 2.8 injection range.
1600cc goes well and insurance is a lot less, even if the cam belt snaps the pistons do not hit the valves like on the 2000cc they do.I was about in the day when they were all new cars.I had the MK3 Cortina 2000cc GT with for head lamps yellow in those days.
I think all old classic cars are a good general chat so ask away. Most have us have spent the odd 35 years with are Mini condition so a change is as good as a rest.I can not see myself being able to have any more Minis age, needs, wants family etc.Never say never. :) :)

I had a MkV Cortina with the 2300cc V6 engine, I think it was a '78 or '79 and I would have owned it around '83 or '84. Nice car in it's day, especially in Ghia trim like mine was!

They were a top car back then Chris, thought they may have been an early V6 model but was not sure.My dad had the 2ltr one Pinto straight four.White with a black plastic roof stuck on.The V6 went in the Granada to,all the Ford Gia"s were tops. Many mates went for the MK2 Escorts,i did not went for Capris instead. My old mom still loves her Fiesta gia"s. :)
