Each to their own i suppose, however after forking out for a very expensive fresh paint job on my cooper im picky as to what ends up on it.

Fair enough mines out side being eaten by the salt off the roads as not had chance to wash it this week and the hose pipe has frozen so the hour in the morning tomoro that i pland on washing it wont be fun.

In a dilute amount its fine for me it is any way, i use brake cleaner to take brake fluid off painted areas all time when its been spilt at work and so on never huts any car yet as long as you give it a good wipe off i only use unipart 5 liter tins in a pump sprayer never tryed other brands maby some of that cheap car plan stuff out on the job.

Here is a nice selection of certified screenwash

http://www.screenwas...en_wash-0-0.htm

Is there anyone who would be willing to pop to the nearest screenwash stockist and pick you a bottle up??

as daft as its sounds unfortunately there isnt anyone, the misses works the same hours as me, both of us do 70+hours a week leading upto christmas, bigs john (the fast food place) is the only shop open when we finish work. :)

Could order some from motor factors and get it deliverd?

Got this from my brother in law in the Royal Marines.
Best winter screenwash (Afghanistan gets pretty cold...) is water plus a nice squirt of fairly liquid and a good spoonfull of vinegar.
Vinegar not only freezes at a lower temperature than water but also acts as a (low grade) rain guard.

I've tried it and it works pretty well - keeps the screen cleaner than the "ready mixed" stuff you buy from shops especially when
your screen is covered in winter muck and crud from spray containing salt, dirt, grease etc.,

I just wish my washers squirted a bit better and my wipers were a bit more enthusiastic...

Best wishes
Monty

Screenwash = detergent (to shift the muck) + alcolohol-based solvent (isopropanol/methanol/ethanol) to lower freezing point & also to evaporate from windscreen quickly + water (to dilute everytink).

Therefore, vodka (or similar spirit) & washing up liquid, would be the best domestic approximation.

My mum used to have a 2CV back in the eighties and that came with a factory supplied Citroen winter grille that was just a big plastic cover that cut off most of the air flow through the grille.

Could no one in the Sutton Mini club pick you up some screenwash? I always find its better to drink the vodka than use it to clean your windows. And if you're really stuck for getting some PM me as I'm only down the road.
