Looks like it was already on it's side when it hit the tree.

Trees do not move, any side impact with any car airbags or not often ends in tragedy.

Glad he walked away - lucky lad

Well he won't have any more problems grounding on speed bumps - prolly a bit of an extreme solution though :(

Self evidently going too fast, but even the most skilled & cautious drivers can be caught out by conditions and you don't have to be going all that fast if you hit something as solid as a tree.

If he had a passenger, the extra weight might have been enough to stop it spinning out.
Still wouldnt want to test that theory.

Has he bought a lottery ticket yet? these things useually come as three's

Thats one accident that would have been made worse by a roll cage, the shell absorbed the impact nicely. Its done exactly what it was designed to do. I reckon a roll cage would have actually hurt the driver more.

Rather that a nice energy absorbing stop it would have been a sudden and abrupt halt, along with the resulting internal injuries.

however, if there was a passenger in the car, a roll cage would have saved them !!!

not forgetting, he wouldnt of been wearing a helmet, so chances are he would have smacked his head on one of the tubes/bars, not good.
