You haven't even passed yet have you?

Dual carriageway's. I do alot from Leeds - east coast nearly every weekend

You've been driving a week? Don't get into the habbit of speeding already...

Most peoples seem to be lower than mine, am I pushing it too hard?

Depends upon were I’m driving, round mk with all the roundabouts and short sections of duel carriage ways between, 50 –55 tops, just not worth trying any harder, will only have to slow back down again fro the next roundabout.

But on a open stretch of clear road, whatever the legal speed limit is... or at a reasonable pace to keep up with traffic ;)

There you go, 3.4, just been rounded up from 3.44, or 3.444 as per Guesworks site...

He's the gearbox guru after all...

i have always had minis with 3.44 they are not very good at top speed .

i had a std 998 and it would do 140 kph ,about 85 mph and thats all .

then i put a big exhaust and some other stuff and still would not go more than 140kph

and then i had a 1275 with big cam all set up and that still woudl not go anyfaster .

so then i want to the supercharger with the 3.4 and i thought it would go real nuts , but the max i could get was again 140kph . the 3.4 ratio seems to be really limiting

now going for a 3.1 and that says at 7000rph it shuld do easy do 200kph

have a look at the link it has some real good info

It doesn’t matter how much power you have, if the gearing is the same the revs in relation to the road speed won’t change, just the acceleration through the gears will be a lot quicker.

Most Minis will go faster with a 3.4, when you can't make enough torque to turn the wheels faster you've reached your top speed - a taller diff (eg 2.95) multiplies the engine torque less. Only if you ran out of revs before you ran out of torque would a taller diff win.

About 70 in my 998. It's quite happy at that. Loud, but happy.

50mph, save petrol, watch trucks overtake, then floor it every once in a while to see what my engine can do.

Also my rpm's ten to be 3000-3500 and 10 or 15 on the Vac gauge.

i think i just realised where the mini gets a reputation for going slow from, why do none of you guys seem to travel at speed? its still a car and unless theres something wrong with your engine you should be able to easily keep up with traffic.

im pretty much always in the middle or outside lane, a standard 1993 1275 keeps up just fine
