il sit at the limit if i can, so 70/75 in the middle and sometimes outside lane dont let revs go above 4k really

i think i just realised where the mini gets a reputation for going slow from, why do none of you guys seem to travel at speed? its still a car and unless theres something wrong with your engine you should be able to easily keep up with traffic.

im pretty much always in the middle or outside lane, a standard 1993 1275 keeps up just fine

I'd have a hard job keeping up with traffic would really have to floor it

If im not in a hurry ill do around 65 on the motorway. Much more relaxing than flooring it in the outside lane, plus i can hear the sterio :D If im rushing though she'll easily do 75-80 (I know its "too fast" but nearly everything else is still passing me at 80 - most people seem to do over this on the motorway!)

Edit: Shes a 998 stage 1

I always find it funny that you can do 70mph on the motorway, witch not forgetting is the legal limit, but at times still only barely keeping up with surrounding traffic.

I have no idea how fast I'm going. keep the revs at about 3.5k but the speedo says I'm doing 45, which is bull. Think I need some bits to fix the speedo so its accurate.

ermm mine was 60/70 mph on a motorway taking my brother to work, in my old 1100cc does anyone know the diff that was init, its a 1978 clubman, and what diff would be in a mini flame engine with cooper conversion, and with ten ich wheels would it make it rev more? as i can change the diff over why i have both engines out if they are diffrent,

thanks ashley

just wondering what your guys cruising speeds are on the motorway, mine is 50mph where the engine seems quite ish,
what final drive should i have?
its a 1988 city

with my old 998 engine in my city e (same year :)) with a 3.105 diff in it the speedo did a full 360 degree turn. Its out by 5mph because of my bigger wheels, so i could reach approx 92-97 mph? with no mods apart from air filter and straight through exhaust. I sat at 60-70 in the slow lane ;)
and i now have a 1275 metro engine in it, which i have the diff from my old engine (3.105) and i pretty much do the same.
Remember that the slower you go the less petrol you use :)

On motorways I normally stay around 65-70. Seems happy enough round that speed.

now with a 3.1, it sits very happy at 75-80 with the 1275.

I get exactly the same as above. Same diff. I did have a 3.4 and that wasn't very pleasant.

I have a 998 with a 3.44 diff andon the way to Stanford Hall (about 2 hours) i cruised at about 70mph and he seemed to be happy enough. When on sorter trips i tend to go a little bit faster and not always realising it. :)

I have an MG Metro powered mini which is currently coming to the end of a complete rebuild. Before the rebuild the car was doing about 3k rpm @ 60-65mph so im thinking it has a 3.44diff. The mini ive been using to get about in over the last year or so is an MPI 98' model and its much much quieter and calmer on the motorway doing about 70mph @ 3k rpm and if its pushed it will easily hit 90+mph but i rarely ever do such speeds! I find however, that both cars burn oil when running on motorways for more than an hour, not enough so you can see smoke, nor is there any oil in the coolant and neither has ever overheated - temp gauge always reads perfect, but if i make regular trips from Leeds - Manchester every day for about 2 weeks in either car, it would need a top up of about 1/4 litre.

Maby this is slightly off topic but no harm in the extra details, Im using 20w50 penrite classic oil atm and was thinking of switching to 20w60 penrite (Classic HPR30) because it should provide that extra resistance to oil burning at high rpm like on a motorway. Ive checked and it is especially for older cars like MGB and should be ok to use in a mini, both have 0.076% Zinc content which is high enough to prevent wear on gearbox parts and any metal/metal contact inside the engine.

20w50 oil im using currently: http://www.penriteoi.....0JAN 2010.pdf

20w60 oil replacement: http://www.penrite.u...SSICHPR30UK.pdf

70mph ish on motorway 4000rpm final drive of 3.44 13" wheels

im changing to a 2.9 fd to make it a bit easier on the engine at cruse ad hopefully give a nicer drive and bring my fuel economy up as its shocking at the moment should bring it down to about 70mph at 3500rpm

I feel a bit guilty now - I went to Oxford from W Sussex in Charlotte (1995 Cooper 1.3i) the other day and made her do 80...

She seemed to pootle along quite happily - but BLIMEY it was loud...

I have never wish more fervently for a fifth gear...!
