On a practical note, how would you make sure only people of 18+ years accessed a certain area? I know it can be done by entering a credit card number but I know i wouldn't be ar**d to do that every time.
we could sell Jammy's Trevor and use the money to send me around the world
on this trip i would meet every member and make sure they were 18+

This swear filter etc is a bit of a joke, theres no harm done in kids learning or reading the words, as long as they dont use them elsewhere, they learn a sense of right and wrong. I went on holiday not long ago, with a mate and his family. His FIVE year old nephews were shouting 'testicles' EVERYWHERE. Now tell me thats bad parenting, or whatever. But those kids know what they are, what they do, the 'little swimmers' as they call them. Its all part of the learning curve, and they will find out at some point in thier lives. No point in pulling the wool.

I don't see a mini forum as a place where swearing would be appropiate and thus I would rarely swear. However if im with my friends I don't see it as a sin or wrong to swear.
Its all about "codeswitching", in the same way as you "dnt tlk lkye dis in an exam xxxx" you write in standard english and most people use txt language in txts. ( I actually still use standard english ).
So for those worrying about the forum turning into a swear pit with people trolling left right and center, I just dont think that is the case as swearing generally is not appropiate in the majority of the posts on here, therefore most people wont swear.
For those worried about young people being influenced by swearing, please wake up. Children from as young as 12ish start using words in that manner. Its a part of growing up, testing bounderies and seing what you can get away with. Lots of young teenagers will swear with their friends however for example when children go to their grandparents house they don't. Its that they have learnt to "codeswitch" between different contexts and enviroments and see what is acceptable and appropiate.
If you do decide to remove the swearing filter, just keep an eye on posts and if you ( moderators ) feel that there is excessive swearing just make your opinion heard. If they are being continiously rude and abrasive then they would not be a worthwhile member to have on this forum so give them a 1 week ban and explain why they are banned. Then if they come back and continue give a 1month ban, and then say on the third time a ban for life. That way swearing could be made to emphasise a point if someone wanted to but if used aggressively or excessivly then there could be some sort of moderation put into place.

its so odd when you call it a mini forum but then want to have a adult section were you can swear and tell rude jokes etc, why call it a mini forum then? you might as well call it a forum with some mini advice given.
to alot of people out there, this is a social network and not just a forum about how to fix your mini. As the years have gone on and i've got to know more and more members, it seems weird not being able to interact with them the way we do at shows. Hence the 'person of a responsible age' section.
I feel a more relaxed 'Adult' general chat section would increase posts in other sections, as most of the members would post in there chatting away to mates without a care in the world, while awaiting members in other sections to ask for help etc....

Vzi i personally find the forum comparable to another mini forum, relating to force induction in minis
Some times the freedom to express your feelings in any Mannor you please is a breath of fresh air. But that's only sometimes. There's no words to replace your attitude when you've had a ******* day in the garage and ******* all worked.
The reset of the time you can feel a bit on edge for fear or being flamed.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't think there should be a swear filter, if somebody is using an unacceptable amount of bad language, they'l soon be picked out and should be given a warning from a mod.
I do think that the fact we can't have a bash at one another, over things like 'BINI's' is a joke.
I'm not sure what my opinion is on having an 'adult only' section, I see pro's and con's of this idea. To the adults it'd be great, but I believe it'd be like segregating the younger members.
