CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)
I'm shocked to read this thread in all honesty... some of the answers given lack some common sense! a mini IS as safe as any modern car... DRIVERS ARE NOT!!! I have a mini and both my children ride in the back, daughter is 7 son is 3, I as a child, like soo many others were driven around in a mini and yet we're here today are we not. yes there have been fatalities but statistics show more people die from being hit by a car not in one, does this mean we shouldn't teach our kids how to walk? It's down to the driver at the end of the day, when you pass your test and are actually concerned about the safety aspect (you only asked how to get a buggy in) take an advanced course if money permits, as well as improving your driving and awarness skills it'll lower your insurance cost too which always helps with a child on the way.

do the lesson s with your granddad, the advanced coures you do once youve got your licence, being an instructor he may know someone if you know what i mean (wink wink) you may be able to get a discount :) don't let anyone else influance you... it's your car at the end of the day and if the girlfriend isn't bothering you to sell it I know I sure as hell wouldn't! :sneaky:

Agreed many drivers are not safe....................but much as I love Mini's saying 'a mini IS as safe as any modern car' is just not facing facts. Over 50 years of progress in the design and engineering of cars since 1959 means any adult or child has far more chance of surviving in a more modern car than a classic Mini when one of those many other unsafe driver crashes into your car through no fault of your own.

I can't help but agree!!

A 1991 Mini doesn't have..

airbags
anti lock brakes
traction control
seatbelt pre-tensioners
side impact bars
etc.. etc..

the list goes on. You can be the best driver in the world, it doesn't stop some other idiot driving near you and braking hard/suddenly or swerving in your direction, or generally causing an accident.

Eh...? I don't think so!! Which statistics are you referring to exactly?

According to the National Office for Statistics - Road Casualty Figures for 2007 (the most current UK figures released to date). The total number of deaths involving pedestrians was just 646, whereas the total number of deaths involving car users was 1444! So in actual fact current statistics show that 2.23 times more people die in cars than being hit by one as a pedestrian! :)

This has turned into a nice, cheery topic!

To the original poster, congrats on your news, hope all goes well.

Don't worry about the car, a Mini will be fine as long you strap baby in appropiately.

As for the buggy question, I believe someones already answered that. Someone I know managed to get on of the mentioned buggies for little money on Ebay, its worth a having a look.

God knows how my mum used to get me and my two sisters and a Silver Cross pram into a Mini!

congrats! i have a four month old and he loves being in my mini he even came home from hospital in it at one day old! :) i have a quinny buzz that fits nicely behind the drivers seat and i always have my baby in the front as if anything did happen it should be easier to get him out. we use an iso-fix seat belt base as the car seat didnt fit well on the seat without it.

to paraphrase charlton heston...

i'm unemployed and our first child is due in april, but if you think i'm getting rid of my mini, you'll have to prise my keys out of my cold dead hands!

checked the baby seat today and it fits :(

Good heavens! That's quite an achievement.

When my little 'un was a baby, I had a buggy which could fold small enough to go in the overhead locker on a 'plane. The perfect thing for the Mini owner!

A much easier solution would be to keep the car and get the kid adopted

I agree
