1995 1275 SPI

There seems to be a problem with the sender that the VACUUM PIPE that goes into the ECU.

The ECU is behaving like it has a turbo connected - i.e. its giving me far too much fuel when I give it throttle...

its ok at low revs in the higher gears... but at higher revs... it don't like it...

There is a place in Warrington called Camco 2000 that are able to fix the Mini ECU's so will send it into them and see if they are able to solve the problem...

failing that... its gonna have to be converted...

What people think?

..now for the funny side of the trip to the RR... (well kinda a bit funny) I am only achieving about 15BHP! haha

I knew it didn't feel right! :D

Hi mate,

What makes you sure it is the ECU at fault. Dodgy sensors, air leaks, lambdas etc can fool the ECU into overfuelling etc, so it may well just be doing what it thinks best with the information available?

The guy who did the session explained it to me... it came up straight away about the fault on the computer. he also said that the figures were backing it up, together with what I had said to him about how the car is behaving. he suggested it before plugging in the computer, then the computer backed him up...

the car runs ok in the low gears, well as long as I don't floor it, then if I put the revs on faster than the car is wanting to... it just murders the power...

my opinion is that you should convert it to carb, and my reasons for doing this are,

easier to work on and diagnose problems in the future,
bit more clout and throttle response,
and thats about it really!

my only other thought is that for the cost of having the ecu repaired you could probably do the conversion?

i know some will worry about the effects this may have on MOT testing when they stick the probe up your tailpipe (oh err missis!) but being in the trade i can get around this with no problem.

May I ask how? Sounds like you know of a trade secret which is dying to be shared? :D

How much is a carb conversion?

The main reason why I wanted to keep the ECU set up was because I like the idea of having the set up the car was built to take...

the guy at the garage seemed to think I could get the ECU fixed for around £100...

Cheers

That sort of makes a standard small bore look positively sporty, even an abused 998 would have at least twice that. :D

Dont you have a "stage 3" head and other bits and bobs?

I find it hard to believe that the ECU is at fault to be honest - but hey the mechanic is the expert.

I would be inclinded to borrow an ECU and have it retested!

Failing that an after market ecu?

yeah I do have a stage 3 head.

if I borrow an ECU, wont I have to have it coded to the car for it to work?

or is it as easy as just plugging in the new one and giving it a go?

Thanks

is it worth going to Camco and getting them to test the ECU while I wait?
Linky to their website
I might be able to get it looked at and them give me more info on the ECU before I make any expensive decisions...
