when he connected it up, it told him that the sensor was MAP sensor was not working, he then checked the filter etc. followed the pipes back through to the ECU, I have replaced the pipes so I know they are not split or broken...

Ok I doubt it would throw a code to say the MAP sensor wasnt working,
it would be reading at 100 which is (to the MEMS) - atmospheric pressure. The pipes and the connections can be tempramental in that if fitted wrong (pushed on too far), it will block the pipe.

It would have been nice if he were to attach a vacuum pump to the map sensor and create a vacuum, this should then register on the reader and match the vacuum being pulled by the vac pump (mityvac is what i use). This would prove the sensor one way or another.

I don't know the Spi ECU, does it have an internal MAP sensor?

It is internal yes.

i'll check the pipes tomorrow! and see...

went out last night and drank too much - hence the 4am post...

so I kinda didn't get a chance to call camco today - been a mess all day!

I will have a look in the morning and see what the pipes are doing.

I didn't know the pipes were so important when I fitted them! lol

but I thought I had fitted them ok.

will have a look tomorrow... :)

cheers

it was reading 250ish at high revs... remember that one now!

another of the readings he said was wrong should have been around 30? and it was -20? (cannot remember what that was though!)

*note to self "take notes next time" lol

couldn't resist...

been out with the torch to check pipes...
-disconnected them both, blew through them and all seemed clear.
-reconnected to the little black box (fuel trap) and blew through again... all clear...
-put the long one back into the ECU on an blew through the short one.... couldn't blow? (is that what it should be doing?)
-I reconnected the small one and decided i'd go and see whether it had changed anything... took it for a spin and it seems to be running a bit better - but still seems to have a bit of a cough/under-power when I floor it... as it was before...

any other things I could check?

Cheers

When you changed the pipes, did you change the fuel trap? That could also be split and causing a leak. Did you blow through the pipes with them connected to the MAP at any time? You could break it, in a naturally aspirated car the MAP is designed to measure from atmospheric pressure downwards, if they've used a cheap one (as they no doubt have) then it won't be designed to deal with positive pressure above atmospheric.

I didn't change the fuel trap... (didn't think to do that...)

the pressure in the MAP hit around 2,500 when he did a test on it... which is why he thought it was broken...
