That had to go back to the company yesterday, so whilst his dad isn't at work and waiting for another car my mate has got this for a few weeks. He is one lucky 17 year old

You must really hate your 17yr old kid to let them loose in something that quick.

but let's be honest, despite what everyone may say or think, they'd prefer to have this as their first car for a few weeks wether they felt they'd earnt it or not..

Depends how sensible the 17 year old is. In the Us, my 16 year old daughter drives a Dodge Neon but also has access to a Ford Expedition (5.4 litre) and a Viper.
Not a bad car for a 17 year old
Anyone remember the thread on a BMW forum and the young lad that had an M5???? and no one believed him... then there was a news report of a millionaires son dying in a car crash in an M5??? turns out it was the same lad.... yep his dad was a very caring dad! now what made me think of that.....
PS now I'm older I wouldn't wanted someone to give me a car... I work for the things I want in life!
