i am thinking of buying some 7 x 10 split rims from MED, but me and my dad have conflicting oppinions, he thinks that these wheels will not hanle well at all and that the biggest you can go WITH performance is 6 x 10,wheras i think that there is nothing wrong with 7 x 10's and that they would be better. This car is for road / track use so please keep this in mind:) thanks, Harri

can you show us the link to these wheels that MED sell.

still no linky to these wheels :)

It's not all about contact patch sizes, yes they are important, however the triangulation of the section of the tyre is also an important aspect, if the tyre tread is wider than the rim then as you "lean" in to a corner the tyre wall flexes and you lose a bit of the stability and control, if however the bead (rim) is wider than the tread then you get a triangulation effect that gives the car much better stability when going in to a corner, anyone who has driven a landrover fast will tell you about the traits you get with those types of tyre...... mainly that the handling has to catch up with the driver, ok this is not so noticeable in a Mini, however it still occurs.

Now taking the rim too far will give rise to potential safety issues, mainly that the bead can "pop" off the rim, the wider you go the more likely it is to happen.

Personally I would stick to 6" and no wider, or try to find some wider road tyres, do HOOSIER do any road tyres yet ?? they used to make a 235 45 10" :withstupid: but it was only for racing :)

yeah was talkin to my dad about this just now on the way home.. no point increasing wheel size when the contact zone of the tyre stays the same and makes the steering a tiny bit heavier. also cheaper for 6 x 10's than 7's.

cheers
