Peter James! Im 17, and got my modded 1990 Mini, with all mods declared including hot 1275, fully comp, for less than £1200!

They quoted me over £2200 for my mini which only has a 1275 engine as a mod. What did you do ? Please share

I rang them up, read 2 pages of a4 of all the mods that I had done, including engine, brakes, and suspension, and put my dad as a named driver on the policy. The policy is my own, as I own the car, ie not on my parents insurance

I originally got a quote before at bingley last year from them, and a standard mini would be £900 for me. It would have been even cheaper if my Mum had a driving license haha. My footman james quote, for the exact same mods, was close to £1500...

We got two quotes at Bingley this year for my son, one from FJ and the other from Peter James.

The car is a totally bog stock 998 74 plate Clubman, parked in a garage.

FJ £1300 i nearly fell over Peter James £850 (fully comp by the way). So FJ's last year quoted us for Erm with either a 998 or 1275 tpft for both engines just over £400 and fully comp for both engines just over £800. Quoted mods were Hi lo's installed and alloys. Scott was 17 then and now he will be 18 shortly.

A very dramatic increase from FJ's and so not very impressed with them, they are not the cheapest and to be honest i personally would not use them.

Looks like we'll be moving at renewal if this is across the board then.

Is that by yourself, or on your Dad/Mum as named driver?

That was about the going rate for a 17 year old in their own name, not as a named driver.

How come on Footman James website it says this:

No-one who will drive the vehicle on this insurance:
• Is under 25 years of age.
• Holds a full UK licence less than 5 years.

?

Thanks Tom.

I don't know why FJ say that on their website?!? They insured me when i passed my test at 18 and have never questioned my age. Just call them rather than going via their website.

What is also weird is that Adrian Flux said they wouldnt insure me because I was under 21 (they told me this every time i re-insured until i actually did turn 21 when I asked for a quote), YET others on here have been given insurance by them under 21?!? Purely because of that, I will now never insure with AF or any of their pseudo companies that trade under different names, but are all owned by the same regulator/insurer, like Flux Direct.

In other news....

Mikey72, £900 fully comp at 17? ARE YOU HAVING A GIRAFFE MATE? How on earth did you get it that cheap? Im being royally mugged off! I'm 21 and paying £800 fully comp with 4 years no claims!

I FREAKING HATE INSURANCE COMPANIES!

Good news, I'll be calling them then, currently paying about £1600 on a 998, at 17 with the mother on the policy.

Wow, it really is expensive for new drivers atm. Try going on the comparison websites and checking more than once. I ran a search through a few times and got different quotes on different days. Ended up with budget insurance who were the cheapest. You could see what they will do for you but I think it depends on all sorts of other things as well.
