theres hundreds of thousands of minis with straight cuts :)

I don't think there's even 100k minis on the road in the uk lol

I think that the figure quoted here was that there are currently just over 30,000 minis on UK roads. So therefore I think it's probably more likely to be "hundreds" of minis with straight cuts, as opposed to "hundreds of thousands"!! ;)

OMG!!! Has no one ever heard of over exaggeration to jokingly get a point across

Scamp never failed on exhaust, even when it was 128dB :withstupid: Then again the tester did smile when he heard it :(

Haven't I told you a hundred thousand million times not to exaggerate ;)

ive got straight cut drops fitted, have done for a year and half, and havent been pulled for that, if your worried about it, just dip the clutch when you see a copper or try and keep the revs down. As for exhaust if its too loud youll get an advisory for excessive exhaust noise at mot time.

sc gears will only make any significent noise when moved for a long distance and when revved, so car park driving will be fine

not at bingley sunday when the red c plate pulled up. (parked by the doors for sale £5600 iirc) that box sounded mental just parking up

The light chattering of straight cuts again is no reason to fail it though, mot testers aren't transmission engineers. Mine make a fair old noise when stationary but not been called up on that... Only time I was pulled over was because I didn't have my lights on at the time.

why would it fail an MOT when the testers dont need to take your car for a drive to test it... sc gears will only make any significent noise when moved for a long distance and when revved, so car park driving will be fine

thats what i was just thinking, but relating to the exhaust can you still be failed with a silencer on it, i read somewhere that there is no decibel limit, yet an opposing view said that the exhaust hasnt to be any louder than standard...*shrug* and another view said that it all depends on what the mot tester thinks. straight cut gears would only make the noise when in gear? they wont run the car in gear to test it will they?

I never mentioned gears anywhere, the exhaust was all i said, gearbox can howl like a banshee if you really wish. The exhaust will fail an MOT on noise regulations. Louder than standard is up to the testers discression as with a lot of the test.

i got an advisory for "excessive transmission noise" :withstupid:

Was he 'advising' you that he thought the transmission was about to pack up 'transmitting' due to his not understanding the normal straight-cut noise?
Mine are so noisy, due to not having much sound-proofing to save weight, that I now use ear-plugs on any journey of over about 15 miles.
