Is your car a cooper s?
If its a standard sport then they are something added on by a previous owner
It has not been modified by John Cooper Garages as it does not have any of the John Cooper accessories or go-faster parts. I wondered whether Rover ever added any extra badging or extra bits and bobs to late cars (wishful thinking)

My cooper sport ( on log book, strengthened subframe, koni shocks etc) had a white roof with cream and black interior with a wooden dash
yeah that sounds right, as they all didnt have silver roofs.
it was just the very late non-500 models that had the silver parts.

That goes against what I thought was correct. I have always believed that all of the limited edition Rover Mini classic Cooper Sports had black/silver leather, alloy turned dash, silver stripes and roof, koni etc etc, this is when they left the factory as over the last 10 yrs anything could have been changed.

Sorry mate, NOT all cooper sports were silver roof models.
The silver roof model was only about at the same time as the LE 500 models.
You can get a 1998 cooper sport with cream roof, black leather with cream piping etc etc
Like this one cream cooper sport
The silver roof sport models with the black/silver seats are identicle to the 500 model in every way except they dont have the badge/plaque and the logbook states sport and not sport 500 le.
The 500 was more popular than rover thought so they cashed in and ran with it and sold extra cars but without the 500 bits. Typical manufacturer.
Some early cooper sports only had half leather seats with a cream fabric centre.
Like this one 1997 cooper sport
Just to add further confusion... A quick and easy way to spot a fake is the amount of dials in the centre of the dash. A cooper with have a clock only but a sport will have three. (obviously depending on the car still having its original dash)
Hope this clears things up

You also say "Some early cooper sports only had half leather seats with a cream fabric centre." Again I think you may be confusing sportspack with sport as the early cooper sportspack 1997 on had half leather seats with a cream fabric centre but the limited edition classic cooper sports was only available in 2000 and so there was not an early cooper sports just a sportspack.

I think you may be confusing sportspack with sport, when you say "A cooper will have a clock only but a sport will have three" the 3 clocks were part of the sportspack option and the non sportspack cooper had just 1 clock however the limited edition classic cooper sports had the silver bits and was the same as the 500s but without the high-level break light and the certificate.

I am talking about a "fake" if you read my post.
Good effort though.
As for an early sport, you are wrong my friend. There is a sport and not a sportpack. They are on the logbook too. (ive owned 2)
Sorry but again good effort

If the 2 you have owned were not this marque I wondered do common standard sportspack Coopers have Sport on the V5.
I think the confusion on my part is my own Mini, to give it it's correct title, it is a Rover Mini Classic Cooper Sport LE, BRG/silver the same spec as the 500s.
What is the way to tell the difference between other common Coopers and the silver roof ones ? is it the Classic part of its title.
