Here we have to the smaller MINI due out next year. It will be only 10cm bigger than the classic. Now its only at the concept stage and will not look like this, m not keen on the rear lights even though they do look cool. it will look more like the one ive posted in the MINIs look cool thread.
So what you think. still a four seter only 10cm bigger and just slightly taller.

personally i dont like it. however i detest the new minis, i agree about the rear lights they look horrible. if bmw are trying to recreate the old mini then i think they need to stop because i think every design just gets worse.

MINI-Minor or MINI City?

KE5Ysu5BuPM

http://www.motoringf...mini-rocketman/

Quote from Motoring File:
"Today MINI has taken the wraps off of a completely new concept that takes the brand into familiar yet uncharted territory. First off ignore the name. It’s a temporary solution that will be fixed if this car goes into production. And speaking of production BMW says that this is the first MINI concept ever to be shown without a specific plan to put it into production. However we know that a small MINI city car is being seriously considering for the brand and this certainly fits within those guidelines.

Now let’s talk about this Rocketman. Internally known as ‘Pure MINI’, the concept is meant to be one part shocking and one part familiar. Since the 2001 when the R50 was released MINI has made it’s mark in a size segment just above true city cars. The size of the car allowed BMW to create a car that felt upscale yet still managed to embody the classic Mini brand qualities.

At 11ft and 3 inches long it’s a little over a foot longer than the classic Mini. As you’d expect the rear passenger area quite compromised and the boot space even smaller than the R56 hatch. But upfront dimensions are very similar to the current MINI with a completely new dash and instrument design that is modern in a very different way than the current MINI.

With the Rocketman MINI has given us a true city car – even if it is purely a concept. The car, which will be revealed to the public worldwide for the first time at the International Geneva Motor Show (3 – 13 March 2011), harks back to the classic Mini in terms of its exterior dimensions, while its technology points to the future of automotive design. A 3+1-seater with three doors and a length of just over three meters (approx. 10 ft.), the Rocketman Concept responds to the fundamental requirements of mobile lifestyles in the large cities of the future by concentrating the brand’s core values in concentrated form."

BMW should have begun the MINI series with a car this size!

Tone down all the silly fripparies (glass roof & kick-off-able rear lights) & it'll be a winner.

Still only concept at the mo, though.

Wonder what'll be under the bonnet?

The reason BMW did not start the MINI series with this size of car was because very small economy cars these days have to be built in low wage economies in big volumes in order to make reasonable profits. This would have mean't closing the Oxford factory in the UK in 2001. Instead they invested and re-built the Mini brand into the current range by creating a brand new sector in the market for a more expensive 'premium' supermini which could still be profitable to build and manufacture in the UK........now being copied by other manufacturers like Alfa Mito, Citroen DS, Audi A1, etc.

The engine is thought to be a new 3-cylinder design.

They want to talk the red crayon off whoever they got to scribble that. If any MINI ought to take its inspiration more closely from the original it's surely the one that most matches its market sector.

The wheels are too big - but they do need to be a bit bigger than the Minis to give some speed bump clearance without looking jacked up. It's far too cluttered and there's nothing nothing Mini about its space wasting rear end. I do like the grille though and there's a touch of genius about the doors.

Thanks,
Callum

In my opinion, if you look at the picture with both the Classic Mini and the BMW "Mini Rocketman", it looks like it will not fit 2 people in the back AND a boot, it looks like one or the over (People in the back, or luggage).

Although I could be totally wrong.

You could not have seen one yesterday as this is a concept car that has never even been on the road.......What you probably mean is you saw the MINI Countryman which is smaller than the already existing BMW One Series (known as the X1 when 4x4).

Also MINI is a marque or range of small cars within BMW Group. As with no visible Rover badges ever being on the Classic Mini range, there are no BMW badges either on the current MINI range.
There are also no visible BMW badges on Rolls Royce's and I doubt you will ever see Tata badges on Jaguars or Land Rovers either..........
