what a load of ****!
I brought my so called bini last year and as a result earlier this year brought my classic
so far I have spent hundreds to make the classic a decent runaround and it still needs
new body panels due to the amount of rust on them, something I have yet to see on a bini
( and remember when the last of the classics was 10 yes old people were replacing panels!)
of course I luv my classic it's exciting to drive but would I use it on a motorway everyday? not if I
wanted to be sure I'd get there in any wheather! the only thing that comes close to the experience
of a mini is a bini except you can use it everyday and keep the classic in the garage so it don't desolve!
I'm sure it'll be the case with the mini mini too people can't afford to run a car now so if something comes along
and does 90 mpg people will buy it during this fuel crisis ( remember what happened in the 1950s?? oh yeah it
happened that classic was born for the same reason!)
so please stop bini bashing now it's getting old!!
The bini was not born out of a fuel crisis, or even on the same design ethos as the original mini. It was designed as a retro styled BMW 0 series that was tapping into the desirability of the original mini. If you want to look at a modern car that encapsulates the original mini ethos then you'd be better off looking at a Citroen C1 or similar. A car that was designed to have space for 4, be economical to build and run and be fun to drive.
Like it or not, the bini is just a fat little BMW that looks fairly similar the the original mini. Somewaht vexing to be honest as everyone knows that Austin helped get BMW up and running making cars all those years ago.

So, in what seemed an ideal match, BMW approached BAe with a view to buying Rover. With Rover, not only would they acquire the volume arm of the company, represented by the products of Longbridge and Cowley, but they would also gain Land Rover, the prestigious marque MG, and the unique retail opportunity of Mini. Needless to say, given BAe’s desire to sell and BMW’s desire to buy, it seemed that there would be little to stop the partnership being formed..........
