Maybe being a bit cheeky here but, could they finally do something Leyland-like and sell them for less than they make them so more people could afford them :) . Please!!

Classic Mini's were actually not cheap cars new in their later years of the 1990's and Mk1 New MINI's from 2001 now sell for around £3000 to £3500 which is less than most late MPI's or good condition classic Mini's of any year.........

Maybe not cheap, but certainly not expensive either. As for the Bini of 2001 selling for less, well in another ten years the classic mini will be worth even more whilst the bini will have been scrapped.

As for prices of classics only the ones which are looked after and in their original contition will be worth money i cant see the value of a motorbike engine one or one thats be mullered to death with mods on it being worth anything! mint mk1/2 and later ones yes will hold there value and to right they should but not every mini or MINI will!

Sorry to rain on your parade but MINI will still be here in 10 plus years, The current MINI gen 2 ends its production run in 2013 when the gen 3 is out, There will also be new versions of the clubman 2014 countryman 2015 and with the rocketman due in 2013 along with the coupe/roadster and the mk2 coupe/roadster in 2018 as well. Each generation of the MINI as a shelf life of severn years including a facelift. With more MINIs planned for the next 10+ years im sorry but you will have to be negative about them for a long time to come.

I think he means that the 2001 Mini will have been scrapped. Not that BMW will stop producing MINIs.

You really should read a thread before commenting. I said the 2001 bini would be scrapped whilst the classic would be worth more than it is now. The bini, being a german euro box, has nothing that will ever give it classic status.

'Experts' were telling me in the 1970's the ordinary classic Mini would never be a true classic, only perhaps the Mk1 Cooper S..........they were wrong. In ten years time the MINI will be 20 years old and the first supercharged MINI Cooper S (R53) will, without a doubt, be well on its way to being a modern classic. ;D

I guess the more modern cars may become dead cheap when the electrics (sensors, etc) begin to start failing. A cheap Cooper S would be nice although they would probably be a bit more expensive to maintain compared to a carb'd Mini. Time will tell...

Quite a good set of photos here.

Take a look at the second photo, between the front passenger seat and the back seat, thats loads of leg room if you were a cardboard cutout i suppose, but even a small child wouldnt have anywhere to put there legs, are they for real or are the back seats just gimmicks? i dont think this will work lol

if you read the press releases, both front seats and the dash move back into the center of the car to help the balance for 2 person sporty driving and can shift forward if you need / want to take more people.

From auto express-
The Rocketman is preparing for take-off! Insiders at the Geneva show revealed that the pint-sized MINI is viable for production – and that even extends to the lightweight carbon fibre body which makes the model’s clever double-hinged doors possible.

Ian Robertson, BMW’s sales and marketing chief, told Auto Express: “Technology developed for BMW’s ‘i’ electric car range (which includes carbon fibre) will certainly be made available to the rest of the group.”

However, we understand that any platform produced for the ‘i’ range will be too big to underpin the Rocketman – so MINI could look towards developing a smaller platform with another maker to cut costs.

BMW already has a partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen, which produced 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol units in the current MINI range.

But the Rocketman isn’t expected in dealers any time soon. We were told it won’t feature in the current line-up, and will instead be introduced a couple of years after the next-generation MINI goes on sale in 2014.

Looks like we will have to wait but it wont be long end of 2014 but i bet it will be eariler!

Why don't they work with the original mini shell? so just modernise the classic mini, making it rust-free, soundproof it, and add more of modern feel to the car. So they come out with a truly evolved mini rather than just a small car that goes by the name MINI.

Already been tried by Rover and BMW with the Minki 1 & 2 K-Series engined Mini's..................for full details and pictures see here:

BMW still trying to win us classic mini fans over nice try BUT go back to the drawing board and make something like this...........

Posted Image

this is what BMW should make .............. :) :)

This was a great looking mini when it was seen for the first time. It was if i remember for the anniversary of the mini rally wins. It was done under Rover prior to the sale to BMW. Fans from around the world demanded for it to be produced but typical Rover didnt listen and it never was, shame but again Rover was all talk and nothing else when it came to stuff like this. When BMW went with the relaunch they went with a totally new model.
I like this MINI and i think it will be a hit,

This is nearer to the production model as concepts never are when they come out. So much so i have been this afternoon and put a deposit on one for when they come out 2012/13 so i can be the first to have one.

For the record, Rover engineers designed that prototype but the decision not to proceed was all BMW. Rover ultimately went bust because BMW used all of our operating revenue to fund the development of their own BMW cars. The end result of which was that they got their new model range up and running without having to spend any money, and Rover was conveniently consigned to the manufacturing dustbin in a blaze of negative publicity. BMW were very very clever PR wise, because ultimately it was their doing that sunk Rover, but the public perception to the great uninvolved was that they'd done their best to save the old company....*******!

P.s. I left Rover in 1999 when BMW had already pitched up and made no secret of their intention to sink, then asset strip the British car industry, land Rover included.

I wouldn't drive a BMW if it was the last ******* car on this planet!

:)

what a load of ****!
I brought my so called bini last year and as a result earlier this year brought my classic
so far I have spent hundreds to make the classic a decent runaround and it still needs
new body panels due to the amount of rust on them, something I have yet to see on a bini
( and remember when the last of the classics was 10 yes old people were replacing panels!)

of course I luv my classic it's exciting to drive but would I use it on a motorway everyday? not if I
wanted to be sure I'd get there in any wheather! the only thing that comes close to the experience
of a mini is a bini except you can use it everyday and keep the classic in the garage so it don't desolve!

I'm sure it'll be the case with the mini mini too people can't afford to run a car now so if something comes along
and does 90 mpg people will buy it during this fuel crisis ( remember what happened in the 1950s?? oh yeah it
happened that classic was born for the same reason!)

so please stop bini bashing now it's getting old!!
