Time for an update....

Busy day today, decided to get the engine out ready for dropping the subframe and painting the bulkhead. First started off by removing the dreaded gear selector roll pin, turned out to be an easy job. Just stuck it in to reverse, squirted a bit of wd40 around the pin and then gave it a good wack with the flat chuck end of a 5mm drill bit. Even the pot joints were no hassle, just used a screwdriver between the pot and the diff case and they popped straight off! All in all not a bad couple of hours work.

998 lump on the garage floor awaiting a re-paint. Thinking black with chrome goodies to compliment the gun metal bulkhead?

Also removed one of the tappet chest covers and placed one of the cam followers back in its hole after it popped out whilst removing one of the pushrods. Thank god for 998 tappet chest covers lol.

Also painted my servo and servo bulkhead bracket today, will post piccies up of them tomorrow once they have fully dried.

Good call, that's the route I've gone down with mine, black block, starter, alternator, then all the fixings etc chrome or alloy.

Pics in my resto thread in my sig if you haven't seen it.

The car is looking might fine too, good colour combo, really suits the clubman look.

Just looked at your project thread, that engine bay is stunning mate, looks very clean indeed. Definately going down the black and chrome route I think >_<

Isnt it just :)

Briain, when you say how it connects to the guard do you mean how it connects to the front of the subframe?

ahh rite. Ill try and get a picture up for you tomorrow, but basically you need to weld a tab on to each panel, then drill 2/3 holes (depends on how many fasteners you want to hold it on,) then offer up the fron end and mark up the holes using a pencil trhough the holes you have drilled on the tabs. Next drill the holes for the front end then buy yourself some m6 or m8 chimney nuts and and some m6 or m8 size bolts. Slide the chimney nuts over your holes, offer up your front end and then fasten it on using the bolts through the chimney nuts, thats it! I used this site for my chimney nuts/bolts, not cheap but very good stuff Link.

Thanks mate! Well the 1330 build is taking a bit of a back burner at the moment, concentrating more on the other things that need doing first, but would like it built by the time MITP comes around. My 998 has only done a few thousand miles since it was fully re-built so i'll be putting that back in for now but with a few extra goodies ;)

Just finished putting the first coat of gloss black on my 998 engine today actually, should luck the nuts when its done with all the chrome and alloy goodies im planning for it. I'll get some more pictures up tomorrow.

Another productive day, not the most exciting of pictures though I'm afraid but atleast its progress.

Well labelled up all my wiring, got it all disconnected, unwrapped it all and then pushed it through the bulkhead ready for being re-wrapped.

Also dropped the front subframe so now thats ready for re-conditioning. I was thinking paint the swivel hubs, fit new ball joints and wheel bearings, new outer cv's, adjustable bottom arms and tie rods, already got minitastic coil springs and hi lo's so dont need to get those.

Im going to paint the subframe in black POR15 rust preventative paint, also just bought some metal ready from frost so ill probably get cracking stripping the subframe this weekend ready for painting next week.

A picture of my 998 with its first coat of gloss black (the oil filter pipe will be painted silver)

The gearbox and flywheel casing needs degreasing. Ill see how it comes up but if it still looks scruffy then I will spray them silver.

Does anybody recommend the genuine ball joints and wheel bearings over non-gen ones or is the quality not that different? I know the price is!

hi mate, how do you find the minitastic coil springs?. when i fitted them on my old clubby they used to bang on the front at the slightest bump in the road.
