People who call a union flag a union jack

That reminds me of a song by Billy Bragg

TAKE DOWN THE UNION JACK (formerly Millennium Song)

Take down the Union Jack
It clashes with the sunset
And put it in the attic
With the Emperor’s old clothes

When did it fall apart ?
Sometime in the 80’s
When the good and the great
Gave way to the greedy and the mean

Britain isn’t cool you know
And it’s really not that great
It’s not a proper country
It doesn’t even have a patron saint
It’s just an economic union
That’s past its sell-by date

Take down the Union Jack
It clashes with the sunset
And ask our Scottish neighbours
If independence looks any good

‘because they just might understand
How to take an abstract notion
Of personal identity
And turn it into nationhood

Is this the 19th Century
That I’m watching on TV ?
The dear old Queen of England
Handing out those MBE’s
Member of the British Empire
That doesn’t sound too good to me

Gilbert and George (A pair of British modern artists whose reputation is doubtful)
Are taking the piss aren’t they ?
Gilbert and George are taking the piss
What could be more British than
"Here's a picture of me bum"
Gilbert and George are taking the piss

Take down the Union Jack
It clashes with the sunset
And pile up all those history books
But don’t throw them away

‘because they just might have a clue
About what it really means
To be an Anglo hyphen Saxon
In England-dot-Co-dot-UK

To be an Anglo hyphen Saxon
In England-dot-Co-dot-UK

I'm a huge fan of the "Why use 1 word, when I can use 5" type people.

e.g. I can't believe that happened.

opposed to

I so can not believe that kind of thing might have happened to us just now!

Please note the complete lack of punctuation, also a massive winner.

Disagree.

Dad comes from fAther.... so has an A

Mom come from mOther... so has an O

People who spell it mUm are technically spelling it wrong.

Pretty hard to tell if people are saying mum or mom though...

the word "aint" annoys me. Or when you have a go at someone, and they say, they havent done nothing! So that means theyve done something?

And being called "mate" by someone i dont know or dislike annoys me.

Don't ever move to the southern US. You would go absolutely mad. I'm getting close to crazy already. :techsupport: (North Carolina, US)

Also for me the one thing that grinds my gears is when people use the incorrect version of your and you're. That and when people say "I did really good". It's not "I did good", it's " I did well". People here think I sound really proper and fancy when I speak but really I just know how the English language works. I feel like I am surrounded by Neanderthals some time.....

all american-isms. full stop!! (or should i say period just to be annoying)

Give an example, I am curious to hear your point of view on what an American-ism is. No judgement because they probably bother me as much as they bother you.

I think he means words that Americans use differently to the British. Like calling a car boot a trunk. Or gas instead of petrol.

Came into the motorbike shop the other day

Have you got a spark plug for my lawnmower

Probably not

Well its the same as a motorbike one

No it wont be its a short reach one

Well its got the same engine as a motorbike

Look at that bike down there (I point to the R1 in the shop) That does 0-60 in 2.4 seconds 0-100 in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 190mph has four cylinders, 16 valves, DOHC Does your lawnmower do any of this?

-.-

My favourite things that don't need to be written are the dramatic 'I'm leaving TMF, it's pants' threads

....only to see them on here again a little while later without announcing they take it all back.

I think we should start charging a doughnut for this service
