Only a couple of small jobs done lately due to dire weather. I decided today to repaint the horn as I could work in the shed and not get rained on. Here is what the horn looked like when removed

I removed the mounting bracket from the horn, throughly rubbed it down with some 400 grit, degreased with panel wipe and then primed.

Same procedure with the horn. De-rusted with a wire brush bit in a drill, degreased and primed.

The mounting bracket was then sprayed with Ford Solar Gold, the rear of the horn was painted matt black whilst the front was finished in gloss black.
The centre bolt on the front of the horn was finished with Hammerite Hammered Gold.
Hanging up to dry

The other job I did was to sort out the interior door handle on the drivers door which kept working loose. Removing the door card revealed why.

The little plastic insert had worn out. Luckily when I have stripped Minis in the past I have always kept little fiddly parts like this so I had a draw full of spare ones.
New one fitted

I also throughly greased the window winder mechanism and the runners that the glass sit on. This finally cured the awful squeak that occured everytime I wound the window down Yaaaay! Before the door card went back on I fitted these

They are basically an anti-rattle measure to help stop the door card vibrating. Not strictly original for this car but as they are hidden I think I will be ok.

Its about time I did an update. Well its not really an update as I havent done anything to it for a while apart from drive it. It is running fantastically well at the moment. The MPG has improved quite dramatically since overhauling the carb and replacing the air filter. One job that does need doing fairly soon is the replacing of the valve stem oil seals. It does smoke a bit on start up so I have started cleaning up a spare 998 head to limit the amount of time the car is off the road. I also need to replace the seals on the tappet chest covers as these have been leaking for a while but for the time being I will be concentrating on the red Mini. Here is how the Studio 2 is looking now
