Shifty, just close the topic and any other that arise in the same nature.

People, there is a section explaining the forum rules. Read them, usually answers any questions.

Lastly I don't hear anyone gurning to eBay about fees and what not. So stop giving mods/admin a hard time.
They have better things to do on this forum than repeat themselves on a daily basis about something that has been dealt with numerous times.

Enough is enough like.

Rant over. :D

I think you are mistaking this thread with the "stupid rules" thread. This poll is just asking an opinion, nothing more.

Nope, no mistake here, do you not remember the PM you sent to 'the stroker' when he wanted to close this thread earlier?

If you've forgotten what you said i'm happy to post it up here to remind you.

Lets not play games, we're both grown ups and you're achieving nothing here.

To provide a great service to our members. You may optionally pay £5 and receive a host of great discounts from various companies that offer parts and services for Minis.

Does the subscription not help to support the forum too?

I'm not trying to cause mischief, just seeking clarification as I only pay my £5 to support the forum - not for the discounts.

That confirms what I thought was the case: "TMF+ was devised after many members expressed an interest in helping with the upkeep of the forum by way of donations. We were really touched by the offers, but we wanted to be able to offer some way of thanks for each donation given, so TMF+ was born."

However the comments by Deathrow seem to imply that the only reason to join TMF+ is for the discounts. Couple this with Shifty's earlier comments about the finances of the forum and you could begin to wonder if the donations are still needed.

Maybe a lot of people would use that as a reason, but its down to the individual. The arranging of the discounts was a way of Thanking those that made, and continue to make the donation. In answer to the post question is yes, it can "make" you money in the way of savings, but a high percentage of people do it to keep the place running etc etc

It really isn't that complicated:

Who should be able to use the forum: anyone with an interest in Minis. Regardless of their circumstances, age or location - all factors that might effect their ability to cough up a fiver via Paypal.

How do we fund the forum: Sponsors, who will get greater benefit from our open door policy than if we were just a closed group of subscribing members. Voluntary donations from TMF+ members, the discounts reward and encourage their generosity and also allow sponsors to asses the value of TMF as a marketing tool when you claim it.

We need non paying members (most new members are) to keep the forum active, just as much as we need money to run it.

If we charged everyone for the forum's services then we might be considered a business and it would cost more than a fiver each to administer it as a commercial enterprise for no extra benefit.

By all means, sign up for TMF+ is it benefits you, or you want to put something back. Don't feel that you're under any obligation though. You're helping by just being here.

Simon's link to te Faq's is correct, poor wording from the others. You donations do go towards the upkeep of the forum along with a generous sponsorship from minispares. Currently the minispares sponsorship covers the yearly cost of the hoasting and the tmf+ donations are allowing us to finally get the wheels in motion to upgrade the forum software in the near future which will allow some new features that will make using the forum even better! As well as that it also allows us to purchase clubstand space at the shows throughout the year with members being able to display their cars on the stands. We will shortly be buying new equipment for these stands too, shelters and bAnners to help promote teh forum and keep the information flowing.

For those of you who do donate, thankyou and for those that do not there is NO WAY IN HELL we will be making payments compulsory and we thank you also for you contributions towards making TMF the great resource that it is!

i joined tmf as a non member, got myself a mini on here too! very useful site for any stupid questions (see my post history!) doesn't appear to be another forum quite as populated as this one, I joined tmf+ last week as i got a decent discount from one of the traders that made it worthwhile, can't see a problem with it, traders get business, customers get a discount and the forum keeps going - win win win!

So you don't have a vested interest in it then?

If not then presumably you wouldn't mind other parts suppliers being offerd a % discount with TMF + then ?

No games here..the reply about mistaking the thead, you have purposely taken out of context. That was a reply to a member quoting the rules...nothing to do with the question put.

I'm fully aware of what I pm'd to "the stroker" and the pm was between him and me which was why I did not post it on the thread. PM= personal message, I'm sure there are some you would not want me to post on open forum!

I have at present acheived exactly what I set out to, ie the answer to may original question. Over 85% think £5 is value for the benefits I listed.

Believe it or not,we have been conducting a conversation in the staff room regarding the whole TMF + issue, where it is prudent to share information amongst the whole moderation team,To include PM's that would be relevevant to the discussion, unless it is of a sensitive nature, its called effective communication,Im also sick of reading off-topic witty remarks in this thread, this is just clouding the issue, and will be removed,so no more please!

I really cant understand all the fuss phil, really. All relevant information regarding TMF+ is available which spells it out in a clear and non-sensical manner, hopefully now you have a satisfactory answer from utilising a forum poll we can put the issue to bed and move forward.
