I thought MINI's had a tiny compressor and repair kit in the boot under the mat, where the spare on most cars would be, at least my girlfriends one did...

Some MINI's do.........depends on the original buyers tyre options, you can also specify a space-saver spare wheel except on the Cooper S.
I retro-fitted the spare wheel carrier on my 2002 MINI when I switched from 'runflat' tyres, all the fitting details and part numbers here:

There is something under there, but me being me i have no idea what it is, it must be something to do with tyres though as it is where the spere would be kept in a normal car.
