but its a mini, theyre supposed to break arent they? :fear:

seriously, any car will give you grief especially if you dont look after it. ive spend thousands on the 2 other cars ive owned previously in servicing and repairs (head gasket and cambelt on a citroen was fun).

any car can be testing..

Tell you something, the cheapest, no work needed, reliable car i have ever had was a

£30 - 1989 F reg Micra 1.0

Run for 6months until its MOT expired, was rusty, fillered arches in primer etc. But it never missed a beat, even doing 100mph on m62.

My mini needed extensive bodywork, but i knew this when i got it.

The other cars i have owned

Pug 306 - Head gasket went, needed timing belt n tensioners

Mondeo (current) - fuel pump belt snapped, turbo pipe split, bulbs went, water pump leaked, timing belt needed doing, injectors replacing....

As you can see, its not the age of the car what makes them unreliable its how and when they are serviced, driven and looked after.

The mondeo was a series of problems due to neglect, as i was moving house and didnt service it when required.

My mini hasn't broken down once in the 10.5 years that I've had it!

But it has been sat in the garage for 10 of those! :w00t:

I have a serious love/hate relationship with my Mini. I love it but it hates me. There's not a month goes bywhere I don't have to spend some money on the latest bit to break/fall off. It blew up after 6 months but I rebuilt it and it's gone wrong every month since then! But I wouldn't swap it or dream of selling it. When I bought the car I knew that it wasn't going to be an easy life - and anyone that buys a Mini thinking it's always going to be easy is misled, mistaken or just plain lucky (should they have years of problem free motoring).

I've driven many cars but none put a smile on my face like my Mini. Even if it is rusty. And the radiators gone. And the exhaust is on it's way out. And the electrics are screwed. And the paint is fading etc etc...

Looking after a mini is like looking after a beautifull women, you must curess her and get your hands in where it counts ("caugh" engine that is) and also wash her down. And you must spend some money to get any pleasure out of her. Its worth every penny :w00t:

dont sell up dude, thats exaclt what i did and regretted it. My saxo has let me down more times than my mini ever did and has cost me more to fix.

Think about it, to fix a modern car you will have to prob take it to a loca garage, to fix a mini there will always be someone in your area willing to lend a hand.
