Morning all,
I've got a fibreglass bonnet which I want to attach, but I don't want to use bonnet pins. Are there any other, more subtle, ways of attaching it...? Any ways I could attach it to the hinges...?
If I park in the wrong side of town people could be tempted to steal the whole bonnet if there are pins sticking out.... They've already put a key-scratch down the side of the car and the rear quarter window, nicked my valve caps, arial and 2 centre caps. I just don't want anything else to be stolen!!!!!
Cheers. Guy.

I'll probably get the "snap-off" bonnet hinges anyway... if this opens up any more possibilties..?

You can get flush fit pins that you use a spilined type key to open, mighty_mini has them on his estate rear door, it might be worth giving him a PM and asking were he got them.

Ok I've found some flush-fit locking pins from demon tweeks, but I was really looking for a way of fixing it from underneath... to the hinges for example. Maybe bonding it to the hinges...?

Right,
I've had a little think, and I've decided to use 2 leather straps at the front, and fix the back to some "snap-off" hinges.
I have no experience with fibreglass, so could someone please tell me how I can fix it/bond it to the hinges with no risk of cracking etc?
Cheers. Guy.

you could just buy a double skinned fibreglass bonnet, these are the same as the originals so they use the existing mounts and catch at the front, so you wont have any bonnet pins etc.. on display.
custom minis sell them.

Thanks, but I've already got a single-skin bonnet which I'd like to fix. I don't want to buy another one in double skin to be honest.

I was wondering about using a thin strip from the back of an existing bonnet. Say cutting the 4-6 inches of metal work that included the hinges etc. Then mount the skin to that 'panel' using some flush mount pins.
It was just an idea I was playin with, but I dunno how it'd work.

Sorry, thought it was one of ours - would have exchanged.
You could drill out the spot welds on a steel bonnet and bond in the steel hinge mount complete.
You could bond with some body filler to hold the position and then buy a fibreglass kit from you motor factors for about £8.00. Its definately not the best way but I can't see of any other.
