I with using the existing hinge and bonding it, also could use some large head counter sink rivits, a bit of filler over the top and you'll never know.

Thats a good idea!

hmm I think I'll go for the fibreglass bonding on the original brackets, and get "snap-off" hinges so I can work on the engine nice and easily!
