I never said that the mini crank was that good, all I said was that you should be fine upto around 200bhp.

Swiftune have gone to the effort because there a great company, they wouldn't be so good if they weren't constantly developing there products.

I'm not saying your wrong I was just saying that you have other options available.

Without adding fuel to the fire, Turbo nick on here, has a 200bhp engine which he used to drive daily and if I remember, did around 30,000 miles in.

Standard bottom end on it. Nothing wrong with building a strong engine with decent crank though.

leaving the Steel crank conversation behind ive got a little bit of exciting news and KAD have sent me some photos of the engine at its current state.

Alloy cylinder head needs porting and on the pic is just in its basic state

Pistons need machining

Rods need balancing

It looks good, whats the spec? Like bore, stroke, CR, cams duration, fueling etc, and what are you hoping to get? Also I can see why your using a steel crank, a modded normal crank is good on a turbo motor, but with a high power n/a engine where your going to be revving the nuts off it, it makes sense. Also are they going to fit a 4 bolt main cap? And are you going to be using steel rods? Looking forward to seeing this built.

The spec is:

140-145bhp,
1380cc.
KAD small valve 16 valve cylinder head with belt assembly,
L1 inlet and BD3 exhaust cams, 10.5:1 compression ratio
A+ block with four bolt centre main cap, bored and honed
73.5mm flat top Cosworth or Omega forged pistons
Vandervell Competition engine bearings
A+ crankshaft 81.28 stroke
A+ conrods, with ARP bolts
HP oil pump, water pump
Twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors
Aldon distributor with Ignitor Electronic ignition
MED Ultralite Steel billet flywheel and backplate
AP grey diaphragm pressure plate and clutch
4-2-1 exhaust manifold



Im not using a steel crank or rods as its not necessary until over 150bhp

looks great man! this is the way i think im gonna go when i start my build. how are you finding KAD? easy to talk to? helpful? I'm thinking about building the 16v head engine myself from one of their kits. look forward to seeing the finished article and how it runs! also, just to be awkward, i really liked that jag green pearl colour too so if you do end up finding out the code please let me know!

KAD are without doubt the best company i have ever dealt with/will ever deal with. Drop them an email if youve got a question about anything and thell get back to you quickly. I was going to build it myself but they prefer to do it themselves not just because of the extra cost.

There isnt a paint code mate, well not one i could find anywhere. you have to mix a colour to look exactly like it. Ive gone for new mini grey now.

im converting from direct acting servo to single circuit with remote cooper s servo, this gives me more room in the engine bay.

Cooper s servo is meant to give better braking the problem is the single circuit master cylinder clevis does not fit the later type direct acting pedal, the later pedal is thicker and has a bigger hole. so ill have to make a special part.

And also cleaned up my starter motor, a lot of work went into this
