Just been told by insurance that they made a mistake on this years policy, so next year as opposed to it being £661 it will be £1400! Yeah, £800 rise!

Any 18year old lads insured on 1275's or coopers with cheaper premiums than that?!

Rant over!

Sounds about right if you don't have any mod's or parents on your policy.

I was testing the water the other day (18 with 1yr no claims [1275 cooper]) and I was getting about £1400 on my own policy with no parents added.

Woah, mines a 1275 studio 2 (i did an engine change) and it's £650 odd...

I'm 19, with no NCB. I've never crashed, but i've always had classic car policies which means i've never earnt NCB.

£800 with modifications, alloys, seats, f/g front, fully comp and I've got 6 points.

That was on an SPi cooper with Norwich Union... I'm insuring a Saab 9-3 now for less than you've been quoted!

Yeah forgot to say, I'm with Footman James too.

If they bump the insurance up then i'll sell the mini and get something reliable. Only reason i've still got it is because it's cheap to insure, and fast.

I was thinking of selling my 35 which is a 1275 and getting something a bit different, but it looks like i'll be looking for a 998 now, not really looking forward to the drop in performance though.

How easy would it be to get a 998 to a stock 1275 performance, don't want to be spending loads, but would like a bit more power.

Currently searching through engine mod threads! :D

It's relatively easy to boost the power on a 998, but the mods will put the insurance up.

Are you on TPFT, and a limited mileage policy? That brings the cost down a lot.

What sort of mods would you be looking at to improve power to 1275 "ish" standard? Exhaust? New head?

I'm on 3k miles TPFT....

Looks like its gotta be a 998, even if i could afford £1400 on insurance i wouldn't pay it - Robbing ****! lol!

Seriously?! In that case, i'd say you should shop around, try Adrian Flux.

To get a 998 up to 1275 standard, try: head, cam, inlet, exhaust, ignition, air filter element...
