Adrian flux come in at a mere £2100. Phoned up a few others in back on mini mag, some don't quote @ 17yrs, the rest in excess of £7000, yes 3 zeros there.

I'll keep searching about modding a 998! :D One company said if it was modified it would actually be cheaper so....who knows lol! :o

I'm 21 now but... this is my insurance history

17, Modified SPi Cooper £1800
18, heavily modified 1275 1yr NCB £900
19, 1.7 Volvo Coupe 2yr NCB 6 points £1000 (car was only worth £250)
now, 2.0 turbo Saab cabriolet, not garaged, 3yrs NCB, 6 Points, very high mileage £1400

It pays to take that first plunge, I saved all year for my first quote, if I didn't have points my insurance would have kept going down, my friends all have relatively high costs becuase they started on their parent's insurance as named.

EDIT: that's very brief, ages and costs may differ slightly... lol

Haha, cheers for that.

I'll try peter james tomorrow, but got a feeling that im probably going to have to get a 998 and do what i can to improve performance without the insurance rocketing!

Cooper s head?

Either a 12g295 that's skimmed to bring the comp ratio up, or a 12g940 with pockets cut in the block to allow room for the big valves.

266 or 276 cam would be a good choice, also, get a copy of David Vizard's "Tuning the A series engine".

As for the PM, no problem mate :withstupid:

Edit, with ref to the guy above me, it seems the era of cheap insurance from Footman James is over.

i just had my renewal with footman james, mine went up by £60 and a further £20 for changing the engine 998 to 1275. and all other mods declared: roll cage, bucket seats, alloys etc. its now £700, im 19 driving for 2 years. 3000 limited milage and agreed value of 3k.

not sure what's going on with insurance at the moment got a quote online for a 1.8 mx5 was only £1400 and a civic vti 160bhp is the same price which i thought was a very good considering my age, makes no sense atall!

Thanks for that guys/gals! Last few posts are interesting! Will have to speak with kwik fit and see what they can do.
