I've been to the Police Public order training centre in Gravesend twice, year round, officers from forces across the country spend 2 days training in public order and 'riot control' I have had a taster of the training that they undergo, and while two days is not a lot, the expert training they receive is of a very high standard. They even have to deal with being pelted with real petrol bombs to complete the training. I feel that the police are perfectly equipped, trained and capable of dealing with these looters and rioters, in a country that has banned handguns, people are afraid of a police force that do not carry ballistic weapons as standard, surely that says something. The issue is sheer numbers as well as the fact that unlike France, Italy or Spain, we do not have any paramilitaries, like the French Gendarmerie, the Italian Carabinieri or the Spanish Civil Guard, who are public order specialists and do not specialise in general policing. All arguments aside, as a spectator to these incidents in London, i can only commend the work of the Met, the LFB and the LAS and condemn the actions of these moronic drones that are so lazy they feel it necessary to loot their own highstreet. And anyone that says any of the copycat riots or the actual rioting in tottenham has anything to do with Mark Duggan's death is an idiot, things like this rarely happen when a drug dealer gets shot in London. As some of you have said it's becoming about race, especially in Birmingham, well, this is probably one of the more multicultural riots that the country has seen in recent years.
Just wondering, are there any Rozzers on TMF or people related to members of the Police service ?

Just saw this video and it actually made me feel sick, Horrible act of violence that was not necessary. Everyone who took part in anything to do with the riots deserves a harsh sentence (If you've been listening to the news today you will know what I mean). What's worse is the person who filmed this had his flat burnt down a few hours later

This whole situation has brought out an anger in me that I never like to experience, These people are animals. I wont add in the other words i would like to include as it is a family forum.

Does anyone here think that the community (government included) has to take some responsibility for this? Yes, it is true that many of the people who rioted were just having a laugh breaking the rules, and those people should be punished, but it was sparked by what people felt was an injustice, and fuelled by a society where the balance of wealth is gradually slipping. David Cameron speaks of a broken Britain, but it's the government's responsibility to advocate and support family values to make sure things like this don't happen again. But lately, all they've been interested in is profitable pursuits. People disregard the truly important things in life these days, and the government is no different.
