I thought I would make myself a topic to share with you my tears of joy and sadness along the way. I've always wanted a mini, nothing else would cut the mustard for me, if not a mini it would have to be a ferrari f40, that is next on the list but I can't quite remember why I didn't get one come to think of it. Anyway I did my test in april and the weekend after I was doing coast to coast on my bike (raised £6000 :D) and on the second day my Dad and auntie came over to tell me that when i get back I would soon be picking up my mini. I was so worn out from riding I didn't know what to say. I had been stalking it on ebay ever since the auction started.
Well here follows a pick of the second day I got it, none of the first, will explain after the pic....

On the first day of getting it, about 5 miles after many smiles it ground to a halt, muck had been dragged through the tank and filled the carb with crud so it was a no go the rest of that day. It had been rebuilt by a fella up the road from me and it had not been on the road at all since he built it so it was to be expected. I took it as a taster as to what was to come in mine and nicholas's relationship :P I think my face on the next pic says a lot. It was on the first real drive out....

Anyway the first shopping kart contained a new steering wheel, I'm not going for originality with this mini, I just said this mini, it shows my intentions for the future already and want to modify it to my own taste. I went over to P and L minis and picked up a mountney steering wheel and boss, also a nice towbar for karting my bikes around ;-) and a few other bits and pieces I can't remember. I don't have any pics of them at the time but this pic shows the wheel and radio I fitted when I went to visit my sister on her birthday :P...

Radio with ipod iput was given to me for free by a kind chap, after putting a few 6x9s under the rear seat it brought something extra to the car :-) Not too shabby for a grand total of £45 for a complete sound system.
Many fun times pursued after this with not a great deal going on mechanical wise and thennn... it let me down.

As it turned out it was just that the earth on the battery had come off :P At least I got an afternoon off college for it.

Then came the minis first big trip, well 200 mile round trip to north wales for the tartydays trial bike weekend. Took three of us plus our bikes plus our camping gear, I thought he did well!!

Next up a painted my street trials bike after I got it welded. Can you guess where I got the inspiration for colour from?? ;-)

I did a bit of work for an older lady on her mini after hers got broken into. I told nicholas she was too young for him :P
IMG_8149.jpg

Not got much else to share as I didn't plan on creating a topic like this, I will make sure more pictures are made. After many tedious hours trying to get a good seal between the original manifold and downpipe I bit the bullet and bought a stage 1 kit. No pictures of this as there isn't a whole load to show for it. Made a fair bit of difference but I really need to get the carb fettled with and timing sorted out to cater for it still. Juts one of those things on the back burner. Had issues with the wheel bearing too so stripped it down and rebuilt the front corners with new pads, discs and painted the calipers go faster red ;P

Lastly a cool recent edited shot...

Immediate future plans are to cut the front bodywork to accomodate for bigger wheels, take off the wood and picket arches and fit group 6s and get some form of superlite 13x7s on there B)

Future plans are to fit myself a nicer interior, hopefully when my birthday comes around. I have had my heart set on these http://www.minispare...21&prod_id=2394

Then after that it will likely be that I give the suspension components and rear drums a good going over.

I promise to keep updating with plenty of pics, au revoir for now!!

Nice mini you've got there. The bike rack on the mini looks mega haha.

I personally wouldn't go for group 6's, although I am touch biased since I've got wood + pickett myself. The wood + pickett and a set of 6x10 alloys always suit nicely, you may want to have a look-see.

Cheers for the comments. I will keep the updates coming!

How come you say not to go for group 6s? W&P wouldn't fit with the new wheels so they have to go. I picked out the group 6s as I personally like the look and they can have side trim fitted to them.

Update time :D I was offered 3 days away with my mum and dad birdwatching or a new set of wheels, guess what I opted for.....Nope your wrong, I went for the wheels :P

Posted Image

Not the cheapest, but in my eyes the best looking 13s around, I am really really happy with them.

First of all I had to whip the wings off, I drilled out the pot rivets and cut through the sort of bathroom sealant filler that seemed to have been used between the bodywork and arch.
Posted Image

Pulling it apart from the wing revealed this...
Posted Image
Will have to get that bare body work covered up to protect it, the a panel on the opposite side has more than its fair share of surface rust underneath.

Then did a fair bit of cutting so my wheels have plenty or clearance
Posted Image

I tried to force out a smile but it hurt to be attacking it with an angle grinder :(
Posted Image
Posted Image

One finished corner looks like this...
Posted Image
Posted Image
It looks a tad wider on one side ;P

I have been having real trouble with the locking nuts, the locking nut key has been lost so have been trying all sorts of measure to get them off.
Posted Image

I managed to get the front one off after some argy bargy
Posted Image
You reckon it is reusable? :P

I couldn't get the rear locking nuts off so I left it like this for tonight.
Posted Image

After me nicholas's christmas and birthday coming all at once he decided to treat me by pissing his pants, i.e. brake fluid pooring out of the rear drums :( Anybody tell me what this is likely to be?? :(

Comments would be super duper pooper :)

probably the rear wheel cylinder seals have failed. The cylinder is not expensive to replace.

Also, the car looks great. I hope you have treated that unprotected metal underneath the arch?

Nice project, try welding a nut onto the locknuts so you can undo them with a spanner or,Halfords do special sockets for undoing locknuts, never tried them myself though!

I hope it is a simple fix, especially after all I have just forked out!! What can I say, I'm from yorkshire and don't like spending money.

The welding idea seems like a good idea, I don't have any welding equipment though :( Will see if I can find someone with the gear and hopefully some idea as the saying goes. Already welded a flat into one so the socket probably won't work on that one (N)

Shiny wheel cylinders. It was just about due a new one don't you think.

Before cleaning up, all dismantled.

It's a good job my mum wasn't around when I did this, trick from the mtb world, boiling brake pads to make sure they aren't contaminated.

All clean

If the rear pads were contaminated by brake fluid you really should change them, boiling in water won't remove the brake fluid from the pad material.
