Not at all, I only commented because to quote your earlier statement "I get my blocks, bored at MED" when in fact you can't possibly do so if they haven't got their own boring equipment.... :D

I had my block bored at Precision Engine Services in Inverness, The guys there said that my block was good for one more re-bore out to 74mm. I must have been one of the lucky ones to get a late casting,

Ive stripped the engine now and would seem the cam shaft has seen better days as have the cam followers! On the up side I have ID'd the pistons as Cosworth flat top (Cosworth is visible when looking at underside of piston). What cam would people advise I fit now that it looks like I need a new one? The one coming out is a Kent 296 scatter cam. So basically looks like I'll be needing a new block with cam and followers and set up for my pistons... Ive attached some pics

See the small crack between bores - from the side it seems to penetrate about 3mm

Apparently Cosworth

I'm not sure what you mean, how can there be a valve imprint on the block surface between the 2 bores?

Wow I have never seen an A series with a valve in the middle is this another "new" thing for me :D

I think those marks will be milling cutter marks left after the pistons were surfaced at Cosworths in Wellingborough.....

However an interesting mark has suddenly become visible to me, if yo ulook at the narrowest point of the block on each piston you will see blow by... black soot, now with thos pistons that section of the piston is well below the block deck and a knackered gasket would NOT leave those marks.... but unfortunately a crack will :(

So in a shorter version it is a new block...

It's hard to tell from the photos if it has been offset bored, but that's acedemic now as the block is cracked and, therefore, scrap.
As for cam, the 286 is a very nice all-round high-performance cam so long as you have a well gas-flowed big-valve head and good induction & exhaust systems. That configuration likes high compression and around 10.7:1 is always good when used with 98 RON petrol.
Don't forget you'll need new cam followers and ideally nnew double valve springs.
